Having built several of the preamp kits and tinkered about with recapping tube amps, i feel pretty confident that I can build the power suppy to the 11-rack. Can any of you share your experience with the build?
And Jsteiger, are you planning on restocking the parts for the rack and ps? It seems the metalwork is out of stock for the rack.

I'm interested in this as well. Time to clear out some pres I don't use much any longer and build some of Jeff's other kits. I could sell some pres, and along with the sale of the API Lunchbox could build the 11 slotter, PS, and add some other candy to the stable.

Rack build simple but monotonous, PSU pretty straightforward, if you fear the PSU Danderlou has a nice one that should handle 11 spaces! Seriously the hardest part of the rack is staying awake!

Rack build is easy. CAPI floor box power supply is straightforward and can supply two CAPI 11 space racks which means if you get 500 GAS you only have to build a second rack and not a second PSU!

I built one a couple years ago... didn't have any issues. There is a bit more wiring than a typical CAPI kit since you have to wire up the toroidal transformer, IEC, and power switch, but the instructions cover all that. Just take your time, and double check everything, and you'll be fine.

Rack is simple and eXCELLENT quality. PS is not something I wanted to take on. I have two though. One built by DanD and the other by BradM. Both are great. But at this point, I'm not buying those anymore. Getting the DanD switching power supplies for $79 and his DC cleanup box for my future 500 racks.

I'd love to learn more about DanD's switching ps. Can you please point me to his website?

Built three Floor box PSUS and five 11 slot racks. Agree with posters above. Still, two things comes to mind:
- On my first build I didn't read the BOM much so I missed that the voltage regulators, 4 or 5 of them, are not identical. I believe one of them is different from the others
- Prior to my first build I built a Hairball 1176 and at that time the HB build guide was kind of strict about teaching the principals of how the power xformer works and how to hook it up for 120 and 240 V respectively. Mike didn't even have color pics in the instructions so you were forced to learn and follow the color codes of the pwr xformer. I read that part of the build guide over and over again until I got it and that paid off when building the CAPI PSU which also has a 120/240V switch

My DIY experience had been limited primarily to Jeff's kits and a few other 500 series modules before building the rack and power supply.
I had precisely the same concerns as you do, but can assure you that the 11space rack and power supply kit is as well conceived as the other CAPI kits you've put together.....if you can follow concise and articulate directions you're golden...
Like me, you'll be incredibly satisfied with yourself and the end result....
Enjoy!

Just no building involved and relatively the same price?

Jeff's will run 2 racks and old school, DanD's new fangled switching supply, some don't like switchers, but you would be surprised how common they are , DanD's other box is there to take out what some would say are the nasties of the Switcher. I prefer the current of an old school, but if A PSU build scares you go with Dan's, you don't have to buy his other box. Think of Dans PSU as a better Lindell, add the Box and you probably would never in a million years ever guess you didn't buy Jeff's ! Heck even without the Box I bet 99% would be more than happy!
