I would like to stream before/after mixes from my website. Are you guys using anything other than Soundcloud? I would really prefer to have them streaming rather than downloadable but of course I would like the highest quality possible. Tough thing to Google.

You can opt to make it such that your SC posts can't be 'downloaded' (in the format in which you uploaded them). Of course, they can still be ripped, but music can be ripped from anywhere.

Soundcloud sounds really terrible. I don't recommend it at all. I wrote an article comparing it, I will post it soon.

I did find a newer site called Clyp that allows you 320 mp3s rather than soundclouds 128.

Bandcamp comes on top. Even YouTube sounds better than Soundcloud. Apparently they recompress everything to 128 with a dodgy algorithm.

Bandcamp is the best sounding, has the best distro options, best stats view, streaming options, integrates well with mail order and digital download. There's no reason not to use it.

If you're doing up a sampler or whatever, then the idea of the wordpress player is good, but I've seen plenty of sites where the discog is names and album art and click either redirects you to that piece of music on the artists site - whether it be bandcamp, artists own site, iTunes etc.

Bandcamp links wouldn't be ideal. It seems like hosting your own is the best bet and bamdcamp links for non-comparison releases.

ReverbNation? I use it but it's clunky and they are always trying to sell you services and send helluva lotbof email blasts about bs....
Op: Thank you for teaching something new to me about SoundCloud sound when streaming. I would shorten tracks to try to up the Kbps rate of the MP3 to get it closer to the full fidelity mix and now I learn that was futile, best to RTFM or " fine print ". I always wondered why streaming SC was so ehhhhhh so to speak. At least they let people D/L the quality file you upload....so nice of them

thanks for all the feedback. my site is on Squarespace (doh) so I'm not sure if I can use any code I want. Their default audio player only works at 128 mp3.
Maybe Youtube would be the best bet.

YouTube can be risky due to sites like YouTube to mp3 dot com that lets people copy your YT link and it processes whatever the video and spits out an MP3 of the audio and I think you can choose 192/256....Major labels pay YT to snatch down what videos and audio videos they say so the traffic goes to the label funded video and label funded audio video to be monetized.

You can track everything kids show me tools to rip off from Spotify. As soon your music is in the internet world you are bumfucked. Which is precisely why it might be better to use SoundCloud. I have much less of a problem with people downloading what everyone seems to agree is a poor quality product. Of course, whatever high quality recording you sell then runs the risk of then being uploaded by others, but most would view that as an extra level of dishonesty, not to mention that you can monitor the high profile sites and request that they be removed?? I'm not disagreeing with you mrholmes. I'm guessing most people don't know or care about the differences between a MP3s, WAVs and whatever the SC format is.

Yupp that is a fact kids don't care about sound quality, they also don't care about illegal downloads. I know two German acts which TCB and scan the internet for their music advising to take down.
They still sell CDs and they make money.
Do not feed the monkey with your bananas.

There is a lot of Dance & DJ stuff...yeah, cuz that genre is dumb easy to make lol!!! that's why everyone calls themselves a DJ or electronic music producer now lol Good electronic music is hard to make, else everyone here with a minutely cynical side would be making a fortune on their techno side project. It's long form music, and has it's own rules as such. Because it's hard to make, most of the stuff is genuine thrash, and the artist focus is the opposite of how Dance music historically worked. Mixcloud is a much more sensible concept - focusing on DJ's and Tracks, rather than 'Producers' is more sympathetic to getting access to music you would like.
