I'm having some issues with my ProTools rig. Btw Mid 2010 Mac Pro, 2 x 2.4 quad core, 24Gb RAM, running ProTools 11.31.
If you are running HDX and have a moment, could you please: - Create blank session WAV @96khz, 24bit - Create 80 audio tracks - Alt-open Avids DSP Dyn3 comp/lim on any insert (alt-open will open the plug on all channels)
I'm not able to open more than 30, despite only using one chip on the HDX card. In 44.1kHz though I'm able to open 800+
No problem running many more plugs in native
I've run DigiTest and all look fine. Puzzled..
Edit: Just got another HDX card from my local shop, same problem, so my HDX card is probably ok

Paul - installing a 2nd HDX card this morning, and another 16X16. Will try this after I get the system racked up and back together.

Paul - did a quick test before I tore everything down. Yes, @ 88.2, it only wants to put the comp/lim on the first chip on the card. I got 34 instantiations. The other chips seem to not want to run the comp/lim. This isn't super surprising to me. On HD Mix cards, there were similar limitations. Kind of thought we were past all that but.... At any rate, I'll try again after putting in a 2nd HDX card and see how many instantiations I can get. I'll report back.

Exactly same behavior here, 34 instantiations @88.2 Don't think another card will solve it (though I'll try too), because the card isn't maxed out, only one chip. And after trying like 20-30 other plugins it seems this is only happening with Dyn3 @ 48kHz and up. Just as you are saying, the bug shows when that plug needs another chip. Thanks a BUNCH for checking!!

Hey Paul. No problem. Got done installing, flashing firmware on my first HDX card, and installing another 16X16 for 64 i/o. Same behavior. I can only get 34 instantiations of the comp/lim from Avid. May be a plugin issue. DeEss will instantiate over 250 on the HDX2. No problems there.
With HDX2, if I FORCED "DSP Sharing" by filling up the first chip with say.... De Esser, I could get the Comp/Lim to "share" on other chips than the first one and ended up with a max of 73 instantiations after trying different tactics with the DeEss instantiations. That was the most I could trick it into. Then I deleted the DeEssers and all was fine.. Weird, but it worked. all I had to do was instantiate something else on the first chip BEFORE trying to instantiate the Comp/Lim. Seems like a bug on the plugin. The OTHER chips on the cards will run it, but the plugin doesn't want to be instantiated unless there is something else on the chip to SHARE with. Very strange, but there's a workaround....
Instantiate something else first that fills most to all of the chips, THEN instantiate the Comp/Lim and you will get more instantiations. Honestly, I can't imagine using this many, but I'm sure you have a good reason. Weird behavior. I would contact AVID's tech support. Bottom line, if you can make it "share" chips, you can get more instantiations.

BTW, here's a screenshot. I completely deleted all DeEssers after the trickery, saved, quit the session and PT completely and re-booted. The trickery continued to work and spread the comp/lim across multiple chips as you can see below. If you talk with AVID, I'd be very curious as to their take on it. Cheers, BTW, the HDX2 is super ridiculously powerful. Like driving a Lambo @ 180mph+..... Shoulda done this awhile back..... Attachments:

Ahh, yes firmware..that's probably why I didn't get my own card and the one on loan to get along :-) But you checked, so now we know. And yes I also tried a bunch of different load sequences. Not 100% sure that it will load the same way when opening the session next time. Btw, I very rarely use that many, but on this tune I have like 40chs of BGVs that needed some initial taming. Changed to native and it's working fine now Thanks again for taking the time

Just a FYI - PT would not boot after I installed the 2nd HDX card UNTIL I let it flash the firmware. It did it by itself and then told me to reboot. Everything worked perfectly. Painless.
