On this page, down towards the bottom, is a VEVO video.. its really worth watching.... Lewitt, have a mic.. that allows you to record the front and back of the capsule, seperately, then control the pattern, with a plug in. The video is shot at United. What I found most striking.. was how much I enjoyed the "all in the room" sound (great room obviously) and how it lost the vibe for me when they did the close mic'd examples.... its a long watch... but well worth it...I did it whilst changing strings for tonights gig.... enjoy Lewitt Movie, toward bottom of page

I believe the Soundfield, and a Josephson mic, also allow for this same type of thing. And they have been out for quite a few years...

I guess it's much cheaper than most other mics that allow their polar patterns processed in post.
I regularly use a Cascade X-15 stereo ribbon mic (Lundahl Transformers) in M/S on our 100 year old pump organ an decode the M/S in the DAW.
Being able to play with the polar patterns in post is great but usually I know beforehand what I want and just choose the mic/technique that suits.

Playing with it later is useful when it's a live situation with bleed. Soundfield is really useful for that. You can also delve into dual mid-side if it can be aimed as needed.

Cool. I did the kickstarter for the Townsend mic, it hasn't shipped yet. Looking forward to getting it.

If you're interested in trying this you could simply record 2 of the same model cardioid mics 180 degrees out of phase and then mix them to suit your taste.

There's just something about room mic'ing that really inspires me, there's nothing else like it. A good room with some ambient miking I love it!
