I have the impression that the difference between i5 and i7 is hyper-threading and that may even slow down audio performance!
Floating point calculations per second is the real measure but it's almost never stated. I understand Intel just made their first big leap in that department in four or five years so one should probably hold off on a mac desktop.

Hey Quint, what are we talking? I'd let it go for $800. You take care of shipping and payment fees (PayPal or whatever). It includes the wireless trackpad and keyboard. I can send you pics.

Just got here, but have to rush out, so no time to read the whole thread. I suffered with an i5 iMac for years. I was in denial it was the computer. My i7 iMac has none of the issues I encountered on a daily basis. No system overloads, no Logic not loading until I try it 3-5 X, no clicks and pops being created, faster load times, no external disc drive not being seen, and all sorts of other things.
Get the i7, maybe get it second hand, but don't think about not getting it.
