Firstly: I had to check to make sure it wasn't April 1st. Secondly: I'm guessing Apple will probably void the warranty on any MacBook's that this is fitted to. Thirdly: I'm keeping my 2012 MBP as long as I possibly can. (2x USB 3.0, 2x Thunderbolt, 1x SDC, 1x HDMI, 1x 3.5mm Headphone Socket, MagSafe connector)

I was crying by the end of it.

Should've put an extra battery in that case too.

Understood but you can check with OWC but my understanding is that apple doesn't void the warranty of its products if you use OWC parts. In effect these are operating as peripherals so don't see how that constitutes voiding anything but I guess we will see once released I've got an owc upgraded 2012 i7 too: feel the same way

(Does Apple own or have an interest in OWC?) Obviously there's interconnections between the ports in the add-on base and the motherboard so I would guess that could raise potential warranty issues depending on who fitted it.

I don't now but I have read that in the past, that apple is/was ok with OWC parts.
Soldering the build, seems to suggest otherwise but OWC is still in business so its an option if you want ?

I would doubt any soldering is involved. I expect OWC would supply cables with connectors that would integrate with the MBP's existing connectors. Of course it begs the question whether the new MBP's were already designed to accept something like this from the go-get?

Yes I don't think add on requires soldering I meant when Apple started soldering things in place a few year ago.

I have to wonder what bus cable is even available to patch something like this in anymore, it must be a moved bus cable and a pass-through of some sort.

As I inferred earlier, it wouldn't surprise me if the new MBP's are already configured to accept some of these new add on peripherals. I think this new expansion port base would have to sell for at least $300-$500. Don't tell me Apple isn't getting something out of it.

October 5th 2011. Everything changed on that day. And not for the better.
When you put an accountant in charge, vision and consideration for art tend to take a backseat.
I may have stated before that I believe things would be much different were Ive in charge. "Ive avoids publicity and stated in March 2014 that Jobs was his "closest friend", a person he finds it "odd and tough to talk about", as "it doesn’t feel that long ago that he died". He also explained in 2014 that if his work at Apple ever became substandard, he would "make things for [himself], for [his] friends at home instead". Steve Jobs considered Ive to be his "spiritual partner at Apple"."
I think we'd have a whole other Mac Pro and MBP with Ive as CEO . . . and we wouldn't be discussing things in this manner.
