This is quite impressive, for comparison sake, does anyone have experience with this, and SPL transient designer?

I have both (HW). That Elysia demo isn't lying. Takes the TD concept one step further. I have TD as SW too. Useful but doesn't grab the way the HW do.

How does the plug compare to your hardware?

How does the plug compare to your hardware? Had no plans to try it, but since you asked I played with a snare for 10 minutes, switched back and forth between plug and HW, and I'm impressed. Compared to the SPL plug (which I found ok but a bit mehh) this is great. On this snare the transient I dialed in had just as much bite and sounded a tiny bit cleaner than the HW.

I love the Nvelope. I use it to tighten stuff up all the time. It's great on acoustic guitar to really get great tight, funky strums. Also creates crazy effects on drums and drum rooms between attack and sustain. Massive breathing and pumping and rhythm.
To be honest I don't have a ton of experience with the SPL but a good friend of mine who has both has told me that they are different even though the difference isn't huge. But that the SPL definitely has a "sound" even though SPL always says its gear is transparent, it does have a certain sound to it and you won't be able to get the same exact effect on the Nvelope that you can on the SPL TD. My buddy has both and says both have a place in a studio but the ability to sweep freqs and select WHICH freq to attack and sustain is crazy useful though. But for long time engineers who have used a TD for a long time and are used to getting a certain sound with it, those people are better to add an Nvelope to their setup rather than replace the TD with it.
I also love the auto makeup gain that will help prevent you from clipping your inputs on the Nvelope.
Nvelope is a clever piece, for sure.

On the RCM video mentioned above, he demonstrates how reducing the sustain on the Nvelope vs SPL can have a very different effect. He concludes that they're both useful for different things, but one is not necessarily a replacement for the other. Check out the 22 minute mark for comparison of the two.
