Completely flat sounds pretty cool to me.

I like a flat mic also......:-)
not sure it will suit on much monkey, give it a go but remember if you would like to move it forward I am willing to also give it a try. :-)

Considering the first thing I usually do with a 58 is take out the presence peak and add some top, I imagine it'd be pretty good.

problem for the sm59 is that the re15 and 16 are flat with some top end.

An old hand at sure told me many didn't like the balance of the 59 in their hand and TV guys hated the look.

not much really. it's turned into a bit of a love fest because we are all addicts.
there are quite a few people that don't like the sm59. it peaked my interest when I read that Frank Sinatra disliked it so much he tried to smash one into the stage.

Neumann's U89 has a very flat frequency response and is probably one of their least loved, older mics. I believe it was designed for orchestral string sections. I've found them very useful such as on guitar cabs or overly bright cymbals, etc. but the lack of top end boost make them sound dull to most rock n' roll ears.

ugh, it looks like it needs a trip to the std clinic. Nevermind.

I remember the first time I hear my voice thru a real u47 vs a u89.... both were gorgeous... the u47 was rich and velvety where the u89 was vvs colorless diamond letting the voice shine thru... yes was going to tape too, I just don't remember what kind Or machine... I know blasphemy... pre was a vintage Neve 1073 at tree sound studios right outside of Atlanta...

I dearly LOVE my U89s and would have 5 more of them if opportunity presented itself. Very underrated on toms too.
