If you got one of the early ones you struck gold. Its the one used on CLA's drum buss and has great smack to it. They are pretty rare and the one everyone wants. It has both input and output transformers. Later they quietly changed the unit and its not the same. They removed a transformer and changed the circuit. You can tell without opening it up. If it has a stepped ratio control with labeled ratios, you got the rare one. I love it on kick, snare, OH, drum buss, bass and vocals.

Ha, bummer. Looks like I got the dumpy one coming my way. Haha. I knew there were some transformer differences between versions and was expecting this to be the lesser unit, but was hoping for the best. Looking forward to giving it a go.

If it isn't your cup of tea I'm sure you can get rid of it, those seem th be popular due to the CLA connection/ usage. Speaking of, I thought he parallel compressed/ insert compressed the mix with the red3? Either way, I know of the red3 due to studying CLA and researching the piece after. Hope u enjoy it man 🤓

I have had one for years and it is a beauty. But be extremely careful with it! Mine's been in the shop for over a year as my tech has been trying to source parts for it... and focusrite doesn't Focusrite anymore. Just a brand name now with little to no connection to their past. So... caveat emptor!

I got home from tracking last night and this Red3 was on my step. Tracking guitars today, popped in this guy and it sounds great. Added life and movement to the sound. Instant cool factor. Dig it so far.

I just spent the other evening at jcoutu's shooting out some pre amps with my mic - and we had some extra time to shoot out Jesse's Stam against my Warm WA-2A and I just wanted to say, the Stam sounded beautiful. We both agreed the Stam had the edge, at least with my vocal. Don't get me wrong, the WA-2A sounded great and I'm not parting with it any time soon. My take is that they have distinctly different coloration/tonal characteristics, which I could try to describe, but I'll bet Jesse could do a better job. Also, the Tonelux pre (TX-5C in the Radial), did surprisingly well, I believe it was Jesse's fave and certainly one of my top choices.

Kenetek T4B Opto cell. Cinemag CM-5227 transformer. Another round can transformer which may or may not be labeled on top? I can't tell from the side view. And a big black cap? i.imgur.com/pyfk4gD.jpg
