They failed to get Consumer Report's recommendation due to very poor battery life performance of only a few hours.

Top of the line $5000 mbp.... around 6 hours for "office" use... 2TB SSD upgrade $1400 😂 I personally don't get it but I know they have their audience... As the fellow said, "you don't need to be paying this much for computing power these days". I recently helped my friend install his DAW on the last gen MacBook and I didn't care for it at all. He expressed his embarrassment that things were glitchier and slower than on my 5 year old PC which we were performing the same commands on, with the same DAW. He had the portability though so there's that.... though that's the only time it's left his office desk I believe.

I'd be the first to admit that were it not for Logic - I'd be on a PC.

I was waiting on this release or a New Mac Pro release due to my aging mbp. Instead, I decided to up my Ram and hd for an SSD. Then will go 64 bit after I narrow down all plugins crossgrade / update fees if there are some required. I agree Apple is lacking in "maxing out performance " If the new chips were not ready for 32 bit and improved performance why release? Surely the amount of frustration with this new mbp is due to losing functionality, loss of ports, low spec'd and high price, performances not exponentially better than previous " upgraded and modded " 2012-2015 mbp.

Forever they've been more stable and reliable than PC's, really having doubts. Not that I see PC's doing any better.

I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro i7 2.7ghz, 16gigs ram, 500gig SSD which is still fine and have no intention of changing it anytime soon.
I recently updated a friends 2011 MacBook (8.1) from 4 GB ram to 16 GB ram and fitted a Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB SSD.
Boot time went from around 2 mins 15 secs to 25 secs and it is literally 10x more responsive. She couldn't believe the difference.

Just a heads up on the 2011 (8.1) MacBook... officially Apple claim it supports a maximum of 8 gigs of RAM (2x 4 gig modules) however it will support 16 gigs RAM (2x 8 gig modules).

Ditto on the Lightning headphone jack on the 7 phone. Tug on the cord and the track changes, or it pauses. Lame. Third party adapters don't do mic and track advance.

Forever they've been more stable and reliable than PC's, really having doubts. Not that I see PC's doing any better. Not sure about that, I'd say they're about the same. I've had a lot more problems on MAC with various devices, like UAD FW devices and the Apogee Duet 2 had a lot of issues on MAC also. But I can't really say that's the "Mac's fault" because it was probably driver / firmware issues. Out of all the windows based interface's I've had only one I seem to remember having issues with, that was an MBOX3. The only reason I had a Mac was for an Apogee Symphony, now there's actually half audio interfaces without breaking the bank for PC I couldn't think of a reason to go back. PC always seems to be a little behind when it comes to audio, like TB etc. but I don't think stability factors in any more.

They've definitely lost tons of ground on the stability front in the last 5 years.

They've definitely lost tons of ground on the stability front in the last 5 years. As Mac guy since '85, I think they've remained stable generally across that period across their sandbox. OS8 was a little rough, the transitions from Motorola to Intel factored in. What Apple has ignored for some time is the niche creative people that drove their popularity to begin with. Seems they just want to be the applicance for the masses, at least those with wealth to want the Audi instead of the KIA. Apple probably has probably worked out we'll build PC boxes or upgrade legacy MacPro's to run MacOS if we want the functionality we need.

My 2014 MBP is less stable that my 2008. That seems just crazy. Maybe the 2008 is 'self-sandboxing' enough due to it's limitations that it can't get in trouble. I'd say my 2006 G5 is more stable than my 2012 iMac too.
Preview has become known for crashing over the last several major OS updates, and I see it all the time. Quicktime is getting that way too. A crash used to be a very rare thing for a native app in my experience.
In that same time I've seen media presentation PC's go from being a constant PITA to working about as seamlessly as my old mental image of Mac behavior.
I've been exclusively Mac since about 2001.

Aside from my video card taking a dump a month ago, it's been rock solid and easy to work on. I checked out the new machines (and they're really nice) but I'm disappointed that they're not upgradable. To get a similarly spec'd machine, I'd have to spend nearly 3 grand - that's about twice the price I paid for my current machine. Not to mention having to buy new adapters, etc. Looks like I won't be upgrading for a while...

Its amazing the difference an ssd makes. Back in the day if you needed stability and used high channel counts, you really needed a super nice pc or a good mac pro. My dual hex core pc hpz800 loaded ssd's and hdd's and 48 gigs of ram is a beautiful beast and these days I see hardly a difference between it and my colleagues mac pro or an i7 we hace here to tap if needed. Currently I can operate 48 tracks of in and out (we just finished a 3 song demo from a 9 piece bluegrass/jazz band) with multiple plug ins (waves, klanghelm, valhalla, etc...) on 1/3 - 1/2 of the tracks without even a hiccup. Just need better thunderbolt compatibility with windows to be here and there will be no difference. Other than its 1-2k less.

Kicking ass here on the MBP 15" Touch-bar, editing 4k video, color grading etc... in FCP & got the LG 4k UltraFine too! Definitely beats my loaded 2012 MBP Retina which was a beast for a long time.
FYI touch-bar is highly useful; finding my self using it much.
I'm very happy with moving to the USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports. I'll be migrating the older external TB and USB drives to SSD TB3 drives as soon as I can. One very small but nice added benefit is being able to plug the PSU into either side, any port.
The LG UltraFine also charges the MBP through the USB-C cable simultaneously with video.
Model Name: MacBook Pro Processor Name: Intel Core i7 Processor Speed: 2.9 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 8 MB Memory: 16 GB Storage: 1TB SSD
VIDEO - AMD Radeon Pro 460 Type: GPU Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x8 VRAM (Total): 4096 MB
FWIW, I've been using MBPs all the way back to the first Titanium model doing very demanding projects; for me, they've always been stable and efficient tools.

If only they would kick Tim Cook back to the accounting department and put Jonathan Ives in charge. The magic MIGHT return.

I own and use in the studio a 2011 macbook pro - many of these models had a fault over time with the graphics card, which makes it crash or not start properly. Mine has this fault - i just leave it on sleep with the apogees always on and every 6 months have a cranky day to get it fully working again for the next 6 months..
