Here's my space for recording and programming drums. I'm just a one man shop and only really got into the engineering side so that I could do more sessions. But I've found I enjoy it a lot as well. Everything fits in the room just right, with alternate kits stored separately and room mics that go in an adjacent large room as well.

that looks like a very well thought out space Javier, I got a little excited at the tape machine and it's located in a great spot to see the meters. your window down low to view the live room avoids reflections as well. nice one. that live room is huge! and it has a couch. comfort! I've always liked the idea of control room upstairs. like electrical audios layout. woah, I just saw the photos of the live room on your site Javier. that's gorgeous. and the rest of the spaces. very cool indeed. ok, i'm going out on limb here. looking at your rooms and your gear I think you are an albini fan. Thanks for he compliment! The "gorgeusness" is thanks to Stephen Pickford of eHz who I called in to build the studio in 2001. The idea for building a studio with a live room on the large side came from recording in Kirios, in Madrid. A studio with an orchestral sized live room. The drum sounds I heard there made a lot of sense to me. I like being able to see the meters on the tape machine. I used to have the tape machine out of site and eventually moved to were it is now. My experience with having the control room upstairs is that most bands tend to feel relaxed sooner. Definitely a fan of the sounds Albini and the Electrical Audio crew get on their records. I guess the MS matrix is a dead giveaway . The studio was built before seeing pictures of Electrical however. The dead room was added years later. The idea did come from seeing many pictures of EA sessions and pictures of Black Box. It has changed my life as 99% of the sessions are done live, with either everyone in the live room or separating drums from amps. I used to use the stairwell as my second room. Now it gets used mostly for vocalists.

Sorry for the blurriness I run a dim ship. It's actually gotten quite nice in here, maybe these candid photos can show some small facsimile of that. Yes I need to clean, too.
One day I'd like to clean up really well and get a pro camera friend over here, just for vanity. Probably after I get some more spendy gear installed.

I love her smile. It's just a weird thing, I found this frame for sale at a local shop, and someone had cut out Ellen and put it in the frame before putting it on the sales floor. I just had to have it, I was in a dark place and needed to be reminded to cheer up.

Man, this is great to see. I don't qualify to post, I'm in a corner of my living room at a cheap desk with an iMac and 3 rack pieces. I love to think about having my own space though, and this is inspiring. Congratulations to all of you for getting this far! Attachments:

Love those mics Ben. Can you please mention what they are, I can see the Neumann badge on what looks like a U67, but the 47's could be any brand.

The middle mic is a Neumann U87ai 40th Anniversary Edition. The mics on either side of that are a pair of ioaudio based U47's from Mic&Mod with Beesneez M7 capsules. The mics on the end of the top row are a pair of prototype C12's from Beesneez that were custom made for me. Pair SM57, Pair Sennheiser 421, Pair AKG C414BULS, Pair BLUE Dragonfly Deluxe (limited edition), 4 Beyerdynamic MC930, Beyerdynamic XXL drum mic kit. I've got a few others staples too, but that's what's in the pic.

How do you like the Stiletto bass? I sold mine, great tone but the string spacing was too narrow for me. Great looking room!

Cool, thanks Ben. What's your favorite for male vocals ? It really all depends. Most male vox I've recorded sound best with the U47, but higher register styles like R&B sound better with the C12. The U47 sounds best on my voice. That's why I have a nice selection, because no one mic is good for everyone.
