Sorry I haven't figured out how to attach pics yet. Just got a shure 315 for $179 at guitar center online and it came with the stock screw on connector. Mic has 3 prongs on output Connector screws on there and it's cable terminates in TS.
I'd like to cut female end off a new mic cable and wire/solder it to the shure screw on connector so that I'm ready to plug it into whatever capi etc i have that will give me enough gain. Can anyone tell me how? The pinouts are numbered on the screw connector. Thanks!

Thanks. So pin 1 is shield, thats normal. Is pin 2 or 3 hot? Would reverse phase be the symptom if i guess wrong?
On my preamp, pin 2 is hot.

Technically since it's a differential signal, both pin 2 and 3 are hot. Polarity is a different case though, and the short answer is that's it's only relative to the direction of a ribbon mic, since it's inherently a figure 8 pattern. If you're having issues, it's not a phase/polarity issue, it's either a torn ribbon, bad wiring/switch, or bad transformer.

Any mike after around 1959 was pin 2 hot. It took gear another couple decades to catch up!
