I just got a usual "My bank account got hacked, sorry, going to have to postpone"
One person left to go to the bank at the 7 eleven a block away, then texted an offer for a maschine MK1 30 minutes later, then never answered again until making an offer again months later, and then disappeared when he realized it was me again.
Anybody get any real zingers?

Anybody get any real zingers? I had a guy last week that wanted to drive up to RI from Jersey to pick up a $100 item. When I mentioned meeting him at the pizza place to do the transaction, he went silent. Seemed like a robbery waiting to happen. Another guy last week was supposed to pick a decent ticket item. Talked to him on the phone, seemed legit and reliable. Apparently, he's getting his car back from the shop tomorrow. He's said that every day for a week now. We'll see if he comes through. Totally boned me though, needed that sale.

Just one, eh? I guess craigslist is a more reliable environment in other corners of the world.

No, CL sucks. I've got $4000 worth of gear listed in a CL ad.
I had a guy yesterday send me an email asking for my number. I responded asking what he was interested in and told him I'd prefer to answer questions via email.

Really bud? All of it? You want $4000 worth of stuff, don't know anything about it, and want to pay $1000?
I told him that if he's serious about buying it all, I'd do it for $3500 cash and we could meet in the lobby of a local Citizens bank to make the transaction.

No stories of trying to sell stuff, buy buying stuff has always been an adventure.
I'd say 60% of the things I've tried to buy end up being scams, the others are usually sold out from under me after promises made, etc, with maybe 10% being legit sales that work out.
I avoid CL as much as possible but some folks I know seem to do well using it.

I sell a decent amount on it. I'm probably 6 for 10 on buyers coming through. I like it because it's quick and there are no fees, no shipping, cash money all day. But there are some real winners.

For a while, I was so active on there it was a part-time job. Have found some AMAZING deals. Now, I hardly bother with CL any more. It's changed and I can't drive across town just to take a roll of the dice that I might save a few bucks. I've come across so much gear with hidden issues, faked guitars, etc. Even selling, I get about 9 people saying they're going to come by for every 1 who actually does.
I don't recall all the lame excuses but I have an interesting story; about 3 years ago I wanted to buy a motorcycle so I contacted several people who advertised theirs as "runs great". I said, "If it's in the condition you say, and you can ride it over here, I'll pay your asking price." Throughout the week I had half a dozen people agreed to this and say they were on their way. Only one successfully made the ride. It's been a great bike.

After a bunch of Craigslist robberies, my town set up a Craigslist meeting place offering the police station as an exchange site. Buyers and sellers can use the parking lot or the lobby, both of which are available 24 hours a day and monitored by surveillance cameras.
If I ever do Craiglist, that requirement- to exchange at the police station- will be in my listing.

Just to add, I've had a number of positive experiences on Craigslist too. Sold a pair of monitors last week. Smooth sailing. Dude came by, tested them out, took them home.

This guy contacted to try and buy and old mixer. Exchanged messages for a week. Mixer was near mint.
He lived 130 miles far from me.
The day before messaged asking me to pay him the gas spent or getting an equivalent discount on the mixer (about half its price).
My answer was short: HAHAHA

I ll still buy some stuff off of CL but selling local all word of mouth, referrals mean somebody knows the guy ! Big bucks audio purchase? I arrange to meet some where that has an outlet, show up with a little Behringer mixer a mic headphones signal source and cables ! Test rig set up at Starbucks has made guys turn and run! Favorite meeting place Starbucks where they know me and I can park Right in front of the door.

It turns out, there are folks with connections (former residents) in SE Asia who buy on CL, load up a container and export to Thailand, Vietnam or similar, where audio gear is worth more than here. For example, those buzzy MC series SS Marshalls. These guys will low-ball you all day long because every $ they spend is one less $ in their pocket. At least my guy knew something about music because I kept taking stuff out of the deal to get down to his price and he kept whining that I was taking out all the good stuff. But he didn't want to pay more, so, TFB.
