The LA3a is quite possibly my fav compressor. I like it better than a 2a. For all-time favorite, it's a close call with the Serpent Splices in Blue Stripe mode.... They are equally good, but different (obviously). So this is cool news. But the price (especially after the initial 100) for a pair is pretty close to a Dan Deurloo built and tweaked SA3a from Serpent with all the typical mods people do to them (I guess Stam didn't see that SA3A is already taken??) - which is a very killer setup. IMO as good or better than the originals. It will be interesting to hear these. The great news is that you can buy them as "individuals" instead of a stereo pair like the Serpent, although I always seem to buy two anyway.... LOL And if you have one LA3a you WILL end up with a pair. A pair of Weight Tanks is the next comps that are upcoming for me.... Look forward to hearing these though.

Congrats to Stam Audio for another cool product release, i hope this is very successful for Stam. I love the la3a on vocals after an 1176 doing -3-7 db. My experience is not with real HW though. The Gap 3a for a couple hundred less seems to have all features on the front panel. Looking forward to some shootouts or A/B's.
How much is the serpent sa3a fully built and modded?
Don't some RGO members have the gap3a and say it's very good?

Hey Ward, you're late to the party... No kidding!! I started my own thread on this... which I'll delete now. I'm in for 3 of them. And I'll have my tech check every value on my existing UREI ones so I can get them to match up too. For guitars, there is NOTHING better than an LA3a. Nothing. The question is asked where do you put an LA3a when you have an LA2a and 1176? Different applications, but with an LA3a you don't really need to use an 1176. And LA4 does this even better... but I digress.

Johnkenn and @smallbutfine, my thread on the LA3a has been deleted, to the best of my knowledge, to avoid clutter and confusion.

You guys are fast! The SA2A weighs 6.5 kilos The SA4000 weighs 5.5 kilos The SA3A weighs 3.5 kilos, maybe 4 with boxing. Shipping should be cheaper on this one, right now it would be 70 dollars to the US. I have given myself plenty of time for this one, I will probably have them ready earlier than May but I rather bee early than late. I will be me announcing more products soon, I have put together a team with a much larger output capability than before and with a better quality control as well, hopefully this will translate into better customer service, no delays and flawless products. Hey Joshua! You really nailed the look of the original - congrats, and well done! Maybe you can provide some insight on why you chose to recreate this particular early version of the LA-3A and didn't opt to do a "working man's" version with all the typical mods many vintage units see. Or are those features just on back panel? And are you going to be offering a stereo rackmount kit? thanks, Brad

I've often seen the LA3A mentioned as a particular producer's favorite vocal compressor. I believe some of Adele's big hits were done with it on vocals.Say you have an LA2A and an 1176, where would the LA3A fit in? I hear of guys using it more often for guitars, I'm sure it would work nice on vocals but I think a blue stripe 76 still rules the day on vocals for most guys.

If you are looking for a more feature-rich LA-3A clone (like the Serpent) you could buy this fully upgraded unit for $879 and add a Kenetek T4B for $100. www.reviveaudio.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=84&product_id=277Or if a little bit of DIY isn't too daunting, another option would be to buy the Golden Age Comp-3A for $500, upgrade the transformers for $100 or so with Cinemag and Ed Anderson offerings and add the Kenetek T4B for $100. That's $700 and a little bit of labor. Or just hire someone to build the Serpent kit like Bill did. I think Bill told me he did it for $1800 all in. Brad

The Serpent stuff is awesome...I'd love to have some...but Stam is certainly appealing to the collector in me with the original vintage looks. Price point is great, and the SA4000 was really well done.
