Interesting.
Or for $200 more get a Monitor 8, 8 of the line outs are also headphone outs so you can use them either way, AND get 2 headphone bus, a master and aux output too.

Superb analog audio quality and high-end converters Renowned ESS Sabre32™ DAC technology delivers 123 dB dynamic range and the same proven, award-winning audio quality as MOTU's flagship 16A.

I will have to have a good think about it.. but one of these might mean I can get rid of a whole patch bay, and associated cabling... and the Behringer 8200 that runs my meters...
cheers

Or there's that. : )
If you don't need more than 16 AD converters on a regular basis, the Monitor 8 is a contender, with the XLR main out and headphone busses. The AD in it also sounds fine.

Does anyone know, if you add a second MOTU AVB interface to say your existing 16A if you can define which interface does the monitor outs...?
cheers

So, how are you supposed to chain this to a 16a? Only 1 thunderbolt port on both, ADAT is only 4 channels at higher sample rates. Sounds like you'll need to invest in AVB.

AVB from one to the other, USB or TB from one to computer.
You define which is the master output through the AVB routing, and you only use one of the units built in AVB mixers.
You can save all sorts of routing templates for any operation you normally use, in either unit.
You only need an AVB hub for more than 2 units, and there are ways around this using ADAT, or one USB and one TB, etc.

The 16A/8A are really intriguing and keep me bouncing back and forth between that or a claret. Since the dude backed out on my last night, I have more time to think about it again.
So what's the ADC? Sabre for DAC, sure. What's the first thing to touch that analog signal?
