So for a singer songwriter typically tracking 1-2 channels and or bringing in a drummer and using <8, the 8x8 module would work fine on usb and just set I pair of outlets as the line out ? I could keep running my octo card on the tbotl pci-e of my mbp. yes, this would work for ya. For me, i have a couple pieces of outboard gear that are permanently connected. I have the mic pre card, btw, which has 4 Instrument Ins that piggy-back off of input 1-4. My Virus TI2 goes into Instrument In 3-4 My Eventide H9's go serially into Input 1-2, and they're fed from either Output 3, or Send 1 depending on if I'm mixing or tracking respectively. My Kronos X is connected via SPDIF Lightpipe to inputs 9-10, and also clocked to the symphony when i'm running it @ 48khz. So that leaves me with inputs 5-8 as available full-time. Inputs 3-4 are available if I set those channels in Maestro to be +4 in, instead of Instrument In, but then i couldn't monitor the Virus' output. Likewise, Instrument Input's 1-2 are available if I set those channels in Maestro to 'Instrument'. I wouldn't be able to monitor the H9's tho. If i really needed another 8 ins and outs, I could plug in my old MOTU traveler via light-pipe and route the analog ins and outs to the symphony's digital channels (9-16). so, in1->out9, in2->out10, etc and in9->out1, in10->out2, etc on the motu. That would give me a full 16 analog inputs and outputs.

Thx, sounds like once you figure out the i/o, you just set up the config workflow that works for you and use it !

what holes would be there? Well for one I use all 8 I/O when mixing, especially printing drums through hardware. If I kept the D Box though, could I go digitally out to the D Box and use its DA instead of the Symphony's? Thus letting me use al 8 line outs on the Symphony? The other thing is latency. I can't hack it, even a little. UAD's Console app is a godsend to me. I don't think I can go back to DAW monitoring.
