Sorry. In all my years, I've never found a deal on anything at either VK or Sweetwater.

Lying and trying to milk me out of a lot extra money and then tell me I have to wait 3-7 for my money back when I paid cash!!!! That is just a little part of the long story.

Yeah that's BS. Probably breaks a trade regulation too. Good time to mention calling the state's Attorney General Office.

Yeah that's BS. Probably breaks a trade regulation too. Good time to mention calling the state's Attorney General Office. They are closed tomorrow and I can't do anything until Monday, so I can stew all day Sunday. Monday will be an interesting day. Maybe I'll just take a day off work and have the Attorney General call them regarding my refund. They can go to the bank and get my money and have it ready for me when I arrive!!!!

Yeah that's BS. Probably breaks a trade regulation too. Good time to mention calling the state's Attorney General Office. .. or threatening to call the AG. Often that's all it takes. If you have a lawyer make the phone call - even better. guitfiddler : Cash?? Really? This is what credit cards are for. With a credit card - you're in charge. Simply threaten to cancel the charge.

I bought a pair of Neve 33114's from VK about six months ago. The price included servicing/recapping etc.
After I paid for them I was informed it could take up to three months before I received them as they had to go through VK's premium service regime.
When I said I couldn't wait three months for them to be serviced they ended up servicing them in about three weeks.
They sent me an invoice with a rather inflated looking service charge which was apparently for the express servicing as their technicians had to work overtime to service the 33114's. Apparently any work at overtime rates carries an additional premium labor charge.
However they then discounted the final price by the same amount as the service charge so it didn't cost me any extra but I felt it was kind of a "See aren't we good to you!" up yours.
In the end it turned out well the they are great but I was kind of taken aback by their slightly off putting interaction.

If someone is going to fuck me I dont show them that I am pissed. I stay ueber friendly - that gives them the feeling that they dont know what is next... It works in 99% of the cases...

I'll never forget Sweetwater selling me a defective DA-78 and refusing to just exchange it for a good one. They insisted that I ship it back to Tascam at my expense. My salesman actually quit working there over this.

I had a similar experience to Bob's with Full Compass once back in the mid-90's, insisting their repair department 'fix' the defective device multiple times, while ignoring what was essentially a full recall on the product. Had my money and my stuff for almost 6 months. Circuit City also did that to me once on a tape deck that never worked.

Oh, but they will fix the broken unit for me, while I wait months. Like I said, there is a lot more to the story. It gets even more ridiculous...Getting a refund and telling them to stick it! I don't have time for games.

In the end it turned out well the they are great but I was kind of taken aback by their slightly off putting interaction. Companies typically do this as an accounting measure, so they can correlate overtime pay to certain jobs, since a lot of service techs get paid per job. It's not a "See, aren't we good to you", it's so that people don't bill overtime for jobs that aren't real, or so people get paid properly for the jobs they do.

I always support local indie dealers. Leo's in Oakland bailed me out so many times its ridiculous. Leo's was a great place. They went downhill a little bit after Leo died and the bank foreclosed on half the stock but they still were a great store. After a bit they were bought out by Matt Spitzer of Spitzer Music (Hayward), and finally went out of business for good about 3 years ago. The last of their stock was purchased by my friends at Audio Images Corp. in San Francisco, who still run a great place. One of the things I really miss about moving out of The City is spending an afternoon at AIC shootind the breeze with Ron Timmons (RIP) and Jim Chen.

Gotta be careful with VK. Bought a pair of Neve 33115’s a ways back and recently discovered that one was not completely discrete as advertised and sold to me. This module also has been to their shop twice to fix an intermittent problem that they cannot seem to solve. They have gotten too big too fast and can’t deliver the TLC to the small guys that got them going to begin with. Only reason I’d d buy from them now is to finance something on their credit card deals as all the other places sell the same new shit for equal price anyhow.

I still can’t wrap my head around the idea that you would charge somebody a fee to service an item your selling! As a dealer your reputation is on the line with every sale, it should either be as is or in perfect condition that’s it!

Selling as new. When clearly it had an issue, it wasn't even the right model. They finally replaced the unit with a new unit! But it took a couple months of back and forth. What the craziest thing is, it wasn't even the model I paid for. It was a hybrid, version 1 not completed. Then they sent me a unit that was broken. I think I got a half finished prototype, seriously. Then the new unit wasn't working properly, one of the features didn't even function. Then I finally got one that worked and it didn't need servicing. Due to really liking this product(don't want to publicly shed any bad light on this company) I don't want to say what unit it is because I absolutely love it now that I got one that works. I had to get in touch with the manufacturer outside of VK.

The whole selling point of VK was this was the future, and we would all be able to avoid all the BS that came with dealing with brokers and less than honest broker clients selling gear. I get that they have grown exponentially in foot print and new sales, but if it takes months to get things that your advertising for sale, it’s time to add to the tech staff. I know good techs are hard to find, but if you need them to do buisness you either find them or you train your own. The reason to buy used from VK was the price got you a worry free purchase. Looks like theirs a big void somebody needs to fill.

Classic case of sales advertising/selling something before it's ready.
