Picked up Air AIEP3 Complete for $75 and the Izotope VocalSynth & Nectar 2 for $149. AIEP3 has proven to be extremely useful, esp the Hybrid and Loom instruments. For what I do VocalSynth will get used a lot. Nectar was just a toss in, haven't tried it yet.

Didn't buy anything, no money. Was looking for good deals on guitar strings, couldn't find any. When GC used to have killer deals on 12 set bricks I used to pick up 4 dozen or more sets of both electric and acoustic at a time, but the new ownership doesn't seem to do that anymore... Stupid, because it always got me in the store - now I check the ads and don't bother. Weird....GC ran 12 paks of Daddario (electrics only) for $25, which is about amazeballs. I hung it on the fridge to remind myself to go, but I couldn't bear the thought of that madhouse to save what $10 of regular? So, since I was on the phone with Sweetwater, they price matched a 10 pak from Amazon.... I got Ivory's American D and the second Fairfax kit for AD2. FWIW. Really? I checked their website about 3 times and saw nothing. I usually use Ernie Ball electrics though, and I'm not sure that GC would have offered elevens at the sale price. I saw some sales for D'Addario 10s online at a discount, but not a very big one - about $40-$45. Maybe I should contact Sweetwater about setting up a string purchase deal, as I prefer buying in bulk quantities...

By themselves - especially FF2 - I think it sounds great...but I never seem to choose them in a mix. Don't know exactly what it is.

I literally have used nothing BUT Fairfax 1 since probably last BF. I prefer it to FF2 by a long shot, but I like the kick on 2 better...and I figured I should pick it up because it's in the same room. I have wanted for a shallower (crakier) snare on occasion like 2 has.
But, I literally HATE most of their stuff. I tried them all some time back...crap, more crap...even ones that sound fine by themselves, don't hold up in a mix. I was completely taken aback by the Fairfax kits. I've never tried their newer United Pop...but, the older stuff is...yuck.
Funny story, though--when I was doing the installation I saw that both Fairfax kits are Gretsch kits of different vintages...so tonight, I was going through old stuff and pulled up my one and only BFD2 kit (meaning the one I built as my fave and used for years)--it's a Gretsch shell kit wit ha Craviatto maple snare. Which is the (one of the)snare in Fairfax 1....so--at least I'm consistent!!
I don't change drum sounds, though. Ever. So, what gets picked at the outset is it.
Actually, I bought some of their MIDI Paks, too, on BF. I was gifted a few by a kind RGO member a while back and they've been a blast. I have this new use for MIDI loops....because when you record sans click track, what is a "static" loop, now plays to YOU instead of visa versa...

so, keep in mind--that whenever I have anew "fake drum thing"...be that a Alesis D4 in 1993 or the 5 or 10 sample sets that came in between--I build one kit and use it 90% of the time. Now, when I'm mixing other people's stuff...different deal, because I'm using BFD2's Air Studios mics and I'm finding the closest samples to and tuning them to the actual tracks I'm given. But, that's a different use case. That's not fake drums...it's "better drum reverb than reverb" for mixing. ...I've actually pulled that up a few times with the XLN--turn off their faux reverb (because Sound City isn't a BIG room**...and just use the Air Studios Craviatto room mics. **I don't know if you've noticed but their "big OH and Room" presets are taking the room mics and send them into HUGE room reverb because the room mics themselves aren't that ambient in Sound City.

Got the Waves Plates, and bought the Raven MTi2 on a whim. Might take some time to integrated it where I get work done. Haven't opened the box yet.

I am really interested in how you get on with the RAVEN.. .can I say it... don't... err... fear the raven 8)... Will be really interesting to see if its a great benefit over the traditional keyboard and mouse etc... I know you use DP, does the RAVEN do the macro thing with DP? cheers Wiz

Don, I'll be VERY interested to see what you think of the Raven. I saw the original demoed at AES about 4 or so years ago and it looked quite interesting, like it might go a long way toward solvingt some of my objections to DAW workflow. One reservation I have about it is that when doing certain types of fader moves (such as fast "blips" on reverb returns) I generally rest the heel of my palm on the console right below the fader to provide a tactile reference, as I don't like having to always use my eyes. I'm concerned that this might confuse the multi-touch. With my hardware console this, of course, is not a problem. I wonder what George would think of this gizmo.....??

We bought the Soundtoys bundle and the Sound Radix bundle. However since I registered for the Sound Radix bundle I have been bombarded with spam for the first time in years.

Another thing I bought this week is Realitone Realidrums, after getting an email ad and watching the demo video. It uses Kontact player. realitone.com/realidrums/It's really cool. Easy to audition kits and individual drums. The groove generator is very nifty, you can customize individual drum parts of every style it offers, it's got lots of pre-played fills you can drop in in real time and best of all, you just drag and drop midi data into your DAW, beats, fills or entire performances. And the drummer is good. A great tool, especially for writers. I look forward to creating with it. Currently on sale half price.

However since I registered for the Sound Radix bundle I have been bombarded with spam for the first time in years. No problem here. Not spam from Sound Radix, just general random spam. I had used Mailwasher Pro on my PC for years and after using it for a while I never got any spam at all. The past few year using the same email address with my iPad has seen very little spam. A couple of hours after I registered with Sound Radix and it's been non stop. I just installed Mailwasher Mobile on my iPad. Hopefully that will kill it off.

Had been thinking about getting an A Designs HM2EQ for some time, so I had to jump when Reverb offered 15% off, and I picked up the new, stepped version Hammer 2 for $1495 shipped.
