Hey guys, I know a number of you have/had a Miktek CV4. I picked one up earlier this year and found it too harsh for my needs until I swapped out the capsule with a BeesNees K7. Now it is my go-to mic on alto voice and violin. It's very smooth now. Nothing harsh about it. No pinched highs and it has a nice warm lowend as well. I'm very impressed with it now and can't see ever getting rid of it.
Anyway, I do have an issue with it. Does anyone else have a hard time getting the shock mount to thread onto the mic? It usually takes me a few minutes before I can get the right angle to get the schockmount to screw on. There must be a better way. Maybe I should replace it with a more standard shockmount, like a U47 uses (but the correct diameter)? Maybe there is a trick I don't know about.

I lived in an apartment that was on top of a chinese restaurant when i got mine. their ventilation fan for the kitchen shook the entire apartment from 11am until 11pm 7 days a week. I picked up a Rycote USM and it took care of the shaking being picked up.

If you're talking about getting the shock mount to get started on the stand then. Yes. Pain in the ass.

Hold the mount steady and spin the boom arm to screw it onto a stand.

Hold the mount steady and spin the boom arm to screw it onto a stand. I think he's talking about threading the mic into the shockmount.

Either get the far superior Rycote mount ( or buy a Auston mic with a simplified Rycote) or recut the threads.

The Rycote mounts are sweet. I picked up a couple of the ones they were selling for cheap with the Austons before they jacked the price up. But, it's not like the CV4 shockmount wouldn't work. I was always able to get it to thread. It just took a bit of patience.

More and more the made in China budget shock mounts are looking worse and worse, low quality metal bad welds poorly cut threads. The investment in Rycotes looks better and better!

I leave almost all my mics on the stands and cover them with ziplock bags, as I am using them a lot and it's easier on the mics in the end.

With difficult threads, usually helps to first turn anti-clockwise whilst pushing down. You'll hear a click as the threads fall into place, then turn clockwise to tighten.
Use this method with delicate/pricey items, and you'll never strip a thread

Use this method with delicate/pricey items, and you'll never strip a thread exactly! unscrew it while pressing down, and it'll pop into position! I do this with everything that uses threads to attach.

Carefull my freind you don't know How many horror stories I have about expensive mics hitting the floor because elastic bands shredded in that good night! Of course this would put you in the company of the youngest Oscar winning composer & God son of one Steve Miller!

Nah, they are safe. I've had bands break before and the mics never fell anywhere, just sagged.
