All this talk about newer ribbon mics, and more new companies in this sector of the microphone market arriving on the scene. Let's talk about differences and what sets them apart from each other.
AEA and Mesanovic have really impressed me, however I hear many good things about Samar also.

I think you'd have to own and live with all of the models mentioned for a period of time before you could really say. I own several Samar, I've used 3 different AEA, used all together on a single session yet that wouldn't let me really judge since each were applied to different tasks.

Royer passive mics: Mid forward sound, a little more highs than traditional ribbons. Higher output than other passive ribbons. Compliments guitar amp tones especially.
Royer active mics: flatter sound, more high-mid and high details, almost like a condenser with some high rolloff.
