Hey Everyone,
I recently posted a microphone shootout on YouTube.
Microphone Shootout: Advanced Audio CM12VE - Standard Mode Advanced Audio CM67VE - Standard Mode Neumann U87AI Microphone-Parts Modded Studio Projects C3
You can check it out at the link below:
All vocals were recorded directly into my Universal Audio Apollo. Voice over vocals were performed 6 inches from the microphones. Singing vocals were done approx 20-24 inches from the microphones. Both of my Advanced Audio Microphones are custom, featuring AA's standard sound and a vintage setting. Both mics were set to standard for this shoot out.
I've been working with microphones of the last few years trying to find the "sound" I had been looking for. That can be tricky when you're an opera singer, as there is limited content out there for recording classical vocalists.
My original full performance of "Granada" can be heard at the link below. In that video I used the CM67VE exclusively.

Signal Chains for the live performance video:
Vocals: Advanced Audio CM67SE - UA Apollo FW - UAD Neve 88RS - UAD Pultec Legacy - UAD Summit TLA100. **Note: I used a low pass filter at 10KH to get more of a vintage U67 feel. I did not do that in the shoot out, as I wanted you to be able to hear the sound of that microphone as it is designed.
-Guitars: AKG C3000B - AMEK System 9098 Channel Strip by Rupert Neve - DigiDesign 002
Trumpet: Peluso 22 47SE - ACMP-84 - Avid M-Box Pro
Additional Guitars: Shure KSM44 - DBX376 - Avid M-Box Pro
"Granada" Music and Lyrics by Agustin Lara Arranged and Orchestrated by Andrew Ardito Additional Orchestrations by David Schaefer

Excellent post looking forward to watching the shoot out vid? Was this before you acquired the Slate VMS? I will provide more feedback later on the Mics! Thanks for the comparison, I enjoy them. ๐

Thanks for the comparison, I enjoy them. ๐ Thanks ChaselUTB. Both the live in studio video and the shoot out video are above. If there is an issue with either of the links, let me know and I'll fix it. This was in the beginning of the year before I acquired the Advanced Audio CM251 & the Slate VMS. Hoping to do another shoot out verses the VMS, but I may be getting my hands on a few other microphones on loan and am trying to sort that out before I film a new one.
