We lost another of the greats who I owe Martin's freind Micheal Fremmer for introducing me to when I was in my teens and he was in the pages of the absolute sound. Was listening to everybody knows yesterday after the Taco Tuesday Results.

Used to cover Suzanne in a band long ago, was somewhat taken with the Fairport Convention rendition at the time. RIP.

Sounds like he chose a really appropriate time to make an exit from this country and this world. He will seriously be missed.

2016 is a sad year. So many great ones had to go already. :-( RIP Leonard Cohen.

He was unequivocally my greatest influence even in my black metal and Gypsy and punk rock bands; there was always a Leonard Cohen aspect to it. I consider him the songwriter of songwriters and the greatest poet of the 20th century. While I deeply love Lorca, Neruda, Jimenez, Williams and Whitman; Leaonard Cohen blended his poetry with such artistic and highly developed mastery (to that beautiful backdrop of nylon string guitar) in a way that displayed his deep understanding of what it was to be a great songwriter. When I read contemporary lyrics I shudder ar how terrible they are. There will be no one even close to his caliber again. He was the only hero I ever had.

Great songwriters always attract great singers to do covers, too.

So I was recording on a double decker bus over the weekend for a fundraiser for a youth music project in my home town this weekend, and we had a 25 piece children's choir get on and they just so happened to have been working on a cover of this before the news: www.dropbox.com/s/vusa3f9epgtokwj/Choir%20-%20Track%202.wav?dl=0
