Been touring in Sweden this autumn and now we're coming to N.Y for one show. Don't ask me why they booked it.. I'm just happy to be a part of it and to play on that classic venue :-) www.apollotheater.org/event/from-sammy-with-love/It's a bit of a Sammy Davis Jr tribute, almost documentary, with paralels/references to the lives of these two dancers from Sweden. |

I dunno.... How many eyes they got? Are they Jewish? But seriously, looks like a really cool show. Unfortunately I'm on the wrong side of the continent.... and am broke.  Jokes aside yes there are a couple of more or less close paralels.. Actually one of them is jewish, both have black fathers and white mothers (like SDJ and Maj-Britt was), both have been treated like sh*t many times because of the color of their skin especially during the early years in their careers (of course not as bad as SDJ and not overall the harsh and extreme situation he had thru his whole life), and finally one of them had a terrible accident. Was diagnozed to never being able to dance again (hardly walk), with the help from his faith/religion spent years fighting his way back and made it. So the piece we are doing is almost like a play, moving back and forth between the lives of these three men, with emphasis and a lot of admiration and love for SDJ. |
