www.audiotechnology.com.au/wp/index.php/apogee-symphony-io-mk-ii-professional-converter/My ears are burnt out from amp testing but here are my observations: Symphony MK II is more natural.. I agree less top but.... It is actually more natural, captures the space of the instrument in a relaxed natural perspective , and is way way way more dynamic..... I like the wood punch on the drum hits more on the Symph more then the spank on the stick and keys on the Avid. What do you think ?

apogee vs avid
I thought the differences were large...
let me put that in context....
The differences were big enough for me to pay maybe 1500 more for one than the other, in the context of gear purchases.....
I thought the apogee sounded great.
focusrite vs apogee
I used to own the focus rite interface, and the Apogee ate it, and it should.
thanks for posting.
cheers

I do like that Symphony a good bit more. Wish I could afford 16 channels of it.

For me the apogee tops the avid, it sounds more euphonic, the avid's a little flatter, the apogee more immersive and bigger soundstage yet more presence, the instruments seemed to have more tone and focus, that may come from better transient response with the apogee as again the quick drum shots and the attack of the piano notes it seemed more accurate and more musical.
If I had the dough I grab the apogee !

I like the HD I/o, however to actual record audio with it how it was designed you need some type of HDx card or thunderbolt card to connect to computer, which means more $$$, but full functionality... Add in the headaches with PT and how Avid is, things start looking a lot greener and we haven't even spoken on the sound! Again this means the Avid system even used, is still as or more expensive than symph mk2... Thr symphony mk2 16 x 16 analog is $4300...The symphony can connect to PT HD with digital link, however HDX ( dsp) capabilities are nill. Symph can be used with multiple DAW's easily and this means the symphony is more flexible regarding production, creation, tracking, mixing, and even mastering because it can be used among multiple daw if that is your practice... Anyone ever heard of an HD I/o running Logic Pro x efficiently lol Sound files: Both avid and symph sound great, if you can't make great recordings with either then it's not the interface. I like the top end on both and can work with both. Also, we all know a little eq could sculpt these takes accordingly...It's hard for me to pick a better converter here, for me the differences are too minute, plus the HD I/o being 5-6 years old is very very impressive here. Also, the reviewer didn't mention the HD I/o released in 2010, or mention "Curv" , which is like the Apogee soft limit, and is a great part of the HD i/o ADC...I like the sound of the HD i/o's, I like Dave Hill / Crane Song gear as well. The avocet is great and people swear by it. Well the HD I/o adc/ DAC had help from Dave Hill of crane song, along with the Heat algo...

IMHO, and I am entitled to be wrong, this latest Apogee very well carries on the Apogee legacy: everything sounds hyped.
