Built me an ez1073. Awesome kit by Colin, stellar case by Collective Cases, and knobs supplied by Jeff. I highly recommend using a different IEC power inlet than the suggested model. |

they are the absolute tits! I built a pair of his EZ1073-500's before they became a commercial kit when he offered up about 20-30 kits to the groupDIY community. Amazing preamps. I just wish they had a DI...

I was looking into building this unit or the Don Classic 500 series one with eq. Colins layout and instructions looks so easy to follow plus this case is stellar !

Also, he pretrims and prebends all of the component leads, so you just have to figure out where they go in the PCB. the unit takes about 4 hours to build!

IEC power cable jacks are always replaced here with Corcom line filter modules. Your grid is filthy.

6 amp models for most rack gear. 6EU or something is the p/n. Mouser sells them, Jameco has that stuff too, for less $.
Many of my rack unit power transformers have been swapped to torriods too. I increased the current to lower the draw and they run silent that way. I hate hearing a low level hum or buzz in a control room.

Hey bluegrassdan, Great looking, I have the same knob configuration on mine! Loved the sound samples you posted...do you happen to have any shots of the inside? I'm finishing some now and had some questions on the finishing details that don't seem to be getting much traction on the DIY site. A couple of questions if you don't mind...which IEC power inlet did you use? I looked at filtered ones, but ordered what was suggested. Also which standoffs/chassis screws did you use? Any info would be great, thanks! |

You will not find a better one. For authentic knobs www.capi-gear.com has everything you need. And more. Also I've been playing with one of Dan's clone Neve 1066 output transformers (PT-t1066) and its a thing of beauty. I just tried it as one of the output transformers in the summing mixer and its awesome. |

Ok thanks! The truth is that the extra cost for case,front panel,knobs,shipping etc is...expensive.the final price is almost the same as buying the 500 series aml 1073 ez  |
