"Signal chain Singer > No pop filter > Microphone > TT patch bay > AMS Neve 1073 reissue (EQ bypassed, gain either 30 or 35dB, depending on mic output level. 1073 rack output level at 0dB (no attenuation)) > Apogee Symphony MK1 (@ 24 bit, 96k) > Pro Tools 12 (32-bit float, 96k) Levels balanced and summed in the DAW"

it was the flea for me. had a great air about it while still maintaining the same rich body of the u47 sound.
i could hear how the slate was in the style of a 47 but it lacked the harmonic fullness of the other mics in this shootout
all things said and done i'd be happy to have any of those first 6 mics.
thanks for sharing!

Yeah, Flea has nice midrange, smooth top. Good texture, more than Telefunken.
Bock nice bottom.
Pearlman was good, but a little too hazy/opaque for me.
Slate is sterile, sounds very different from and lacing in depth when compared with any of the others, like a cheap capsule through a filter. Just like it does in every other demo I've heard.

Wait, no real deal as a benchmark?

Yep. Flea for me as well. I was disapointed how the "Suprema" from Wunder was different but not better to my taste than the Glass tube version.

Wait, no real deal as a benchmark? Well it just makes it harder to sell expensive clones! 😎

I'll take 3 pearlman and flea for the same price as the tfunk. Pearlman sounds super balanced like a polite 47. Bock super proximity like original, Wunder ummm no thanks. Tfunk no thanks

While looking for a 47 style tube mic I compared the Flea 47 directly with the much more expensive Wunder CM7.
The CM7 sounded pushed in the high upper mids and I didn't like what it did to sibilance.
I bought the Flea.

I tried the reissue Neumann U47 FET at same time I auditioned the Flea 47 and Wunder CM7. As far vocals are concerned they are correct... it makes a great kick drum mic. Just to clarify: If it's for predominantly vocals the Flea 47 IMO has more of the traditonal U47 tube mojo going on than the reissue U47 FET and the Flea 47 is around $200 cheaper.

YES !!!!! Love the Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad T-Shirt Shawn Taylor is wearing. My boys GPGDS have the #1 reggae album in the country right now. Not bad for a bunch of New Yorkers.

Wait, no real deal as a benchmark? Clones are the benchmark these days.

the thing I find odd is... How many of those mics are using a Thiersch capsule ? Yet they all sound different (Slate apart, of course)
edit : Got my answer on GS, thanks ChaseUTB.

That FLEA sounds nice! A good balance, I'm impressed.
And I also really really liked the Bock, even though I would've had the singers a little farther away since it seems to have a more pronounced proximity effect than some of the others.
But imagine that Bock on stand up bass, that must sound awesome.
I owned the CM7 Wunder for a while and this doesn't make me regret selling it.
And man, I saw some youtube comments praising the Slate, to each his own I guess but I'm definitely not hearing it.

I don't want to be "that" guy...but how about maybe doing 4 at a time with the same take.
