How does 3u GZ251tube or fet compare to Bock 241 which has just been discontinued - I was considering Bock 241 to compliment my Beezneez Arabella(u47/m49), Mahalia (u67) & Samar AL39 vocal mics, and am now left with these mics to consider; Josephson c 715 or c716, or maybe Blue bottle - however if the 3u GZ251 overall sound quality isn't noticeably far below the Beezneez mics I already have, I would consider it to plug the gap ( C12/251) in mic types I have in the small vocal mic section of my locker Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

Don't know about the 3U but go listen to the Clips of the Upton the modded CV4 and ADK against Jeff's 251 "Dolly" as in Parton face and Sol's 250 in the 251 shootout , Then have a Talk with our own Shannon Rhodes of Mic Rehab!

Yeah, you could get the Upton for what you would have paid for he 241 or a modded cv4 for around $2k

Everything that's been stated.
But from personal use, in regards to what you're considering, the Josephson C716. The C715 is a little darker & requires a lot of gain but also a possibility. But since you're looking for a 251 sound, the 716.
I'm impressed with what I've heard here from the Upton! But we all know that microphones have to be personally heard & in one's environment.

I was thinking I might be selling my Dany Bouchard C12/251 prototype if your interested. As I got another custom made Beesneez 251 which I think sounds a little better for my voice.

in my experience, all Rhoades lead to Shannon.

Or combine the Upton with Shannon...still cheaper than a Bock At this point I can't look at a new condenser mic without thinking "But what could Shannon do with this thing?" I'll bet Shannon knows what more of the individual mics in Nashville studios sound like than anybody ! Add the fact that he can tune just about anything to get it where you want it ! Well the smart move would be to talk to Shannon before you buy, Talk budget what you really want what's the best route to get there! I have said it before if I knew Shannon in my gear pimp days life would have been so much easier!

And the Bock 241 was cardioid only so not really a 251. I believe the bock 251 is like $4800 or something.

Sorry. $5400. You can definitely get the Upton and Shannon for cheaper than that. Or just buy one of Shannon's 251s.

In the original post he was asking if a 3u audio mic was comparable to a Bock 241. The bock 241 msrp = $3650. The 3u Audio is $600 I believe. Oh yeah an Upton 251 / Mic Rehab 251 is not really a ELA M 251 either ( don't kill me please Bock 251 I think is $5600, you could get a lot of Upton / MicRehab work for that! Edit: Bock's 251 has been praised by many but it's costly compared to Flea and Upton. Edit 2: Upton 251 $4595

I recently bought a used Bock 251 for $3800 USD After spending a few weeks with it I can say it's fantastic. Stick it through a twin servo and be amazed!

Granted, still small change compared to the high dollar boutique stuff, but worth pointing out.

Edit 2: Upton 251 $4595 The FleA 47/49 stuff sounds very good but their 12, at least the one I was given to sample, left a lot to be desired. It could have been a pre-Campbell one but the US distributor couldn't verify what capsule it had in it.

I've been trying to find a Flea 49 to audition but there's none around here AFAIK.

Oh, and don't let the 3U prices fool you. These are quality sounding mics, no doubt. I own a few.
