Does anyone build a small 8 buss analog mixer that is highend? All discrete components, or 500 series chassis with channel strip, inserts, 4 auxes, pan, faders? I was checking out Fabs analog mixer he uses in his Flux studio, that is an amazing setup, I'm thinking like that only on a smaller scale, not so many channels. Analog in and out from the DAW, and insert my compression and FX. I am really liking the results right now experimenting with a cheap analog mixer, imagining what it could be like with a nice analog mixer with Transformers.

There was one that I saw once, but I can't remember the name for the life of me. I just remember it was orange and sparkly.. And very expensive.

I am using a cheap Allen & Heath Zed14. I was listening back to my old Alesis HD24 recording from years ago and I really liked the warmth, it just sounded better to me with that and my modded ghost console that I sold. I am an OTB guy, and nothing will change the way I feel about it now that I am working myself back out of the DAW. I found an API box mixer for a decent price. I was also looking at the Audient. Still on the quest...

Only 6 busses and not DIY, but I think it checks all other boxes...

Yeah the wunder is just beautiful.
I'm nearly finished with my 10 channel neve-ish summing line mixer. It uses app 992's and jlm hybrids for the 8 channels plus a stereo channel. Aux and switchable inserts on every channel as well as switchable inserts on the master out. All summed through two EA-10468 input transformes then a graceful 1272 replica then a pair of 1066 type output transformers (I haven't picked if ots gonna be ea-1166 or the Collectiv cases 1106

Wunder Audio? Very Expensive, but very nice, and very expensive. The Wunder is one of the most beautiful desks ever built. I also love the RND 5088. Simply beautiful.

I always wondered how many "Wunder" consoles have been actually sold. Lottery winners with studios?

I am definitely interested, what about a Mixwizard? Is that a better board than the ZED? It has more I/O than my ZED.

Master section has been a pita and the final rendition will look a little different but its all there for a very comprehensive and feature filled section. Took me a damn while to design and wire it though.
Switches include: Dim with volume fader Mute Reverse Mono/stereo Stereo bus insert Headphone with volume fader All illuminated and all awesome. Theres also a monitor select 1 & 2 switch And every channel has insert switch as well as mute and an aux send fader. Master section has the aux return fader, headphone fader, monitor fader, and of course master fader. Whew. Its getting there. Im sending off the front panel file next week. Im still vasilating between black and gray (if i can get a good gray)

Is that a better board than the ZED? It has more I/O than my ZED. I had a mix wizard. I liked it a lot. Right now I wish I still had it. had direct outs on every channel, so I could mix a show as well as record the show to my mobile PTHD rig I was using at the time.
