... and their input pots are S.H.I.T.
I can't even remember how many times I've pulled them out of the rack to clean them. Apparently this is a well known problem.
So: what have you guys done with your units to solve this problem? Do any of you have links to other pots that are better?
Thanks.

100% spot-on, Tony. Replace with higher quality pots ALWAYS! UA are legendary for cheaping out on certain components.

How cool was that, seek, and ye shall find. The great promise of the internet is becoming reality.
Allbuttonmode, what things do you like to use the 1176's the most on? I'm thinking of getting one, eventually.

Yeah, this is indeed awesome. I use them in both tracking and mixing. In tracking, I mostly use it chained up with an LA-2A. Just a tiny touch on each, to smooth it out a little bit. This goes for vocals, guitars, percussion. I like what these units do to the sound, so I use them just as much as tone shaping tools as pure compressors. In mixing, I have the hardware units on kick and snare. I also use the UAD 1176 plugins on pretty much anything else I need to smooth out or alternatively bring out a little grit. I love both for different things.
I am thinking about building a couple of Hairball kits as well. The 1176 is, so far, my hands down favourite box. So versatile. As long as the pots aren't crackly and unreliable, that is ;-)
