Before using pads I would at least try just using the pres trimming down the gain, if your going down the pad route I would consider the DIY route !

From the specs, it looks like it's 300ohm, 1200ohm, and line is 10K ohm. I'm not the smartest peanut in the turd, but there's always the fun option of replacing one of the two 300 or 1200 with a 10K resistor, or replacing the two way switch with a 3 way switch and wiring a third option going through a 10k resistor.
From my knowledge of making those microphone 600 ohm droppers, that should be possible, if that's something you're more than likely to be doing often?

So on my unit, it's actually a jumper selectable impedance internally, rather than on a switch like the newer unit has. Would it be as easy as getting a 3 way switch, adding a 10k option, and having all 3 on a switch rather than the jumper? web.archive.org/web/20140419073821/http://www.soundskulptor.com/uk/mp573.html

Considering the jumper, I'd honestly reach out to the guys. They create kits so I'm sure they had a line in mod before they made the 3 way switch. I didn't realize it was a jumper. I think you could change out the 300ohm for a 10kohm if you're planning on using it with the modern standard 1200ohm load. I'm no svart but I think reaching out to them may provide you with a surprising result. And when you do, lemme know!

The 10K line in will either have a pad or it will bypass a gainstage. Pretty sure in Neve style ones it actually bypasses the transformer? Couldn't be sure though.

"The Shure A15LA provides 50dB of attenuation" That means this device only works from line level down to mic level by matching loss. It might work, but any gain you add is only going to raise the noise floor with it. You might just try plugging them in as is, without matching. You might be surprised.

I mean, if you're looking for line character, you'd just need less pre db to get the hair on it, right?
