I was wondering how folks go about maximizing the quality of their SC postings? ChaseUTB mentioned in a different thread.. I've always been posting wav files to SC, but last night after reading the above, I decided to upload an MP3 of the same track. It was late and my ears may have been playing tricks, but I'd swear the MP3 had more accurate (sharper) transients. That said, the rendering of my wav file was smoother on top - maybe losing a little bite, but feeling a bit more compressed and softer - it wasn't an unpleasant treatment, but I'd say the MP3 was more faithful to the original. I'm not near my system right now, but I wasn't aware that you could apply dither to an MP3 - I guess I didn't see it in the settings.

I'm not near my system right now, but I wasn't aware that you could apply dither to an MP3 - I guess I didn't see it in the settings. I'm glad you were able to try it out and see. I have made many conversions and so far I find the way I wrote above to be the best option for sound quality. When making an Mfit master they recommend a similar workflow ( no dither, encoding from the highest quality file 32float/96khz 32float/48khz etc), so I incorporated certain steps into my workflow. The no dither is if your limiter plugin has the function/ feature. I use a few different limiters depending on what sounds best, and most have the dither feature where you can enable/ disable it. I use Pro Tools and when you choose MP3 from the bounce or shift- command + k (export region/ clip shortcut ) the dialog window comes up and after selecting bounce/ export a seperate window appears where you type in the tags and this is where you can choose the kbit/s number. If you use another DAW, iTunes can do the MP3/ or AAC conversion process. I know logic has the MP3 export and you can choose variable bit rate encoding which is suppose to encode better than constant bit rate encoding.
