Guy lists a pair of preamps on GS. I email asking if he interested in trades or cash only. He gets back to me 24+ hours later and says he made a mistake on the price and the pair is $200 more now. WTF buddy. Your price is still "ok", I guess, but even if I could afford the extra $200, I don't want to give it to you on principle. What a bummer.

I used to be amazed at how many people can't read (not you), but more recently it's transitioned to include the number that can't write either. Bummer indeed.

it's probably more of a "I could take this amount" - looks it up on reverb later - "I could get this amount for it" He'll probably still take the lesser, but first no one else has to buy it at that bigger price!

The issue is that it's a couple of completed DIY preamps. He was asking just below kit price, which is a good deal. His price now is still cheaper than buying a completed unit from the manufacturer, so it's still fair, but over my budget now. I contacted him at the old price, then he changes his tune. Bad form if you ask me.

Bad form if you ask me. Well, that's one way to look at it - the other is that the preamps were assembled by some guy whose asssembly skills are not a known quantity and do not carry a warranty like the company assembled units do, so they are not, in fact, worth as much and he shouldn't be looking at it as if they were. Yes, defintitly bad form, to say the least. Years ago I used to make a living buying, refurbishing, and reselling Hi-Fi gear. A lot of classic Dynaco stuff passed through my hands. Factory built stuff ALWAYS commanded a premium over kit built, as the assembly quality of the kit units was all over the place. Some wasa just fine. Some was...... not.
