Damn it. Even better than the 2 for 300 that Sweetwater was running. I have 3 of them. They're good at what they do. For that price, I'm thinking about more!

That's dirt cheap for decent channels of compression. You can get the ZenPro mod for $100 more ($299 for a pair in the sale) where they swap in Burr Brown op amps on the input and output. Unrelated, but I gotta say, the ZenPro mod CL 7720 I bought from RicFoxx recently is a significant improvement over stock.

They are "OK". They are not a 160VU. I have 4. They get used. I prefer hardware over software. Don't expect color or any degree of "spank" from them. They CAN (and do) reduce dynamic range fairly transparently -- until they don't - at which point I generally prefer a plugin.

Been awhile since I used any DBX stuff. I do some light transient shaving with them. If you go too heavy with them, they seem to fold under pressure. But for a hundred bucks a pop, they're handy little bits.

Word. Well I've only got 8 analog I/O and I've already got more than 8 channels of analog EQ/comp so I think I'll pass. I'd snatch em up though in a different scenario.

Looks like Sweetwater has the same deal.

*kicking myself for not ever getting a 500-series chassis*
I love the 160As (that I've borrowed and never owned) so I'd love to have some of these guys at this bonkers price.
...plus Warren at Zen is such a nice, helpful guy. I feel like I owe him money just for existing.
Alas, my gear lust rages on...

They're good, I use them on every mix. I modded mine myself with a slightly different chip than Warren uses but it definitely improves the headroom and takes a lot of the harshness out of these. That price is a pure steal.....

What S.M.T.s did you use?

That price is a pure steal..... Is it an easy mod to switch out the chip? It's SMT so you need hot air and experience with removing and reinstalling those parts. A lot can go wrong pretty quick if you don't know what to look for when you're doing it. A lifted pad or trace can ruin an entire board. So definitely not what I'd call easy, but there are only two opamps that you replace.

the 560 comes off snappier, or maybe just louder than the 160VU. Clearer? Sounded fine to me! Anybody want to buy a 160XT? Papa needs a new pair of stereo shoes!

Hard to pass up. I wish this was a deal for the Pre-amps. Those I am curious about.

I have two empty spaces so I picked up a pair as I use the heck out of my two 160XTs. I have a whole red/blue/green knob theme going in the rack now so even if they're pricey filler panels I'm happy.

I'm going for it. It's just too good of a deal. I have bought and sold a bunch of dbx compressors, I'm going to try hard to keep these this time. I like the way they sound stock, so I'm not going to mess with any mods.
I would be interested in a comparison between the 560A and the 160A if anyone has this experience.
