So - in the videos - mind you I'm just listening on a MBP...I still hear sibilance.

I don't subscribe. I did as long as he gave it to me--it's a lovely set of tools. They have a "similar-ness" about them in general....but, my notion is that if you get the bundle with Relab, that plus any modern DAW's built in tools will mostly do what you need. They just keep adding to it.
I own VCC/VTM/FXG...and then Revival (free) is amazing. I more often than not prefer it to a Pultec to air up a vocal.
I mentioned it because they sent the announcement email today or yesterday that it was included now....I assumed that was the reason for the renewed interest in what has to be a 5+ year old plug in. I demo'd it long ago--thought it was the best deEsser I'd ever used....and since I don't need one much, didn't buy it for the hundreds they were asking. It does what it does without causing dullness and lisps....Fabrice and I apparently have the same take--it's not the loud SS that's the problem--it's the shitty dirty distorted sounding SS.....I often ADD high end to sibilants when I manually take care of them--find the "ugly" frequency and notch it way out and boost the SHIT out of above it so as SSS still sounds like an SSS.....it's just not ugly.

Great post, Jamie! I just read once, but think I get that you're saying the esses are coming from below the usual thought freq wise.

Basically, yes--the "ugly" is usually somewhere in the 3-10khz range....lets say this particular singer/mic is around 7.5khz....so, if you create a filter like a high shelf, it needs to be considerably lower to "catch it"--and ends up taking ALL the highs out of the SSS....which is no longer ugly, it's just weird--but, if you can create a kind of notch filter (liek the "split band" on many deEssers) around 7.5khz, but also have it ADD as much of say a 12khz shelf as it does remove 7.5, you end up with a nice crisp SSS without the ugly. If memory serves, this plug lets you create a custom curve to use? Like with a notch and a shelf--or maybe by way of a resonant shelf (where the hinger point would cut and then boost above it)? It's been a long time since I demo'd it....

It's been a long time since I demo'd it.... I think this might be a simplified version of that original Eiosis DeEsser. That thing was a Unicorn. Rave reviews all around but then Eiosis went totally MIA. I emailed them for a couple months trying to buy the damn thing and never got a response. Weird little side company of Fabrice's. I've still never heard it (the DeEsser). You ever use the FabFilter ProDS? That is the the best I have heard. I don't DeEss much anymore but when I do, it's the FF.

I just bought the Fabfilter complete bundle and therefore got the Pro DS.
Your right ragan it's a fantastic de-esser (actually all the Fabfilter tools are first class) - it's hard to imagine how anything could improve on it as it just get's on with the job and de-esses's in a very natural way.
That said for an important lead vocal I have always mnaually taken care of siblants using automated volume and EQ - it's time consuming but the reults are on another level to auto plugin de-essing.
I'm now using Pro-DS for BV's and lead doubles.

DMG essence is the most transparent de-esser I've used.
Fabfilter is easier to set up, however.
Similar thing with Expurgate vs Pro-G.

Fabfilter's didn't make me want to stop fixing issues manually. But, I only demo'd it briefly.
I actually was assuming this was Fab's old DeEsser. I see in watching the video, they've made it simpler. For better or worse.

Man desser's if there is one plug an arsenal is a good idea it's desser's. No one works on everything it's like the designer had a singer nothing worked so they made one for that singer!
