Today I caught myself using facebook and without thinking about it two hours where wasted again. Reading my own comments was like.... its all useless BS... who needs my rant. And why the hell I am doing it. The best of it all ... my rant makes a young man, who never did any real work in his life, a multi bilonarie.... a multi bilonarie ..... I cant believe it. They dont produce anything useful for any human, they just give you a free acount.... and you post your life there? Come on thats insane...
In other words .... They need fuel and I deliver it for free.... am I stupid? Oh yes I am, because I just did it again.
Did I ever made friends or customers on FB....No. Did I ever caught any usefull information on FB.... sometimes.
Next stop.... I will stop reading news feeds.... its time consuming and it can make you nervous... The majority of them is far off serious journalisim. They feed me with yellow press shit, who needs it.... For the feeling of beeing updated all the time? No thanks...
In other words 2/3 of my internet time is useless.... RGO makes sense because we help each other...
But Jesus why do I support Mark Zuckerberg for free? And the negative effect of FB is that you meet friends less often. But social contacts are the fuel of human beeings, we need contact to real people.
Its a good decission I think. I will call friends like in the 80s again and will ask if they come around for dinner. Because this totally disapperad in my life with the event of social media. It semms everyone is on its own stareing into cell phones.... To me it makes the impression the smart-phones dictate people what to do next.
Human robots.

RGO is my Facebook, for the most part, and it serves a useful purpose.

I recently did the same thing, I've since removed all my unnecessary social stuff cause it's a fucking huge time drain. No regrets.

For my side, FB gives me the chance to stay in contact or meet people i nearly forgot were friends. It is the last connection to some people i have now, weird, even an ex-fiance that i hold contact with - on FB. Just arranged a real life meeting with one of my oldest friends (>30 yrs) on FB for this weekend, we haven't met for years, and it's great to see him again! So for me, it serves a purpose most of the times. It's staying in contact with people and entertainment etc... for me. But sure, i understand, why many leave FB after a while, if they get in trouble with their sparse time and wonder why they spent so much time on FB. As with all social media, it is how you use it or how you can use it - more than a simple good/bad question. Do you have the time to do it? Are your friends on FB regularly? Could you make real new friends or stay in contact with real friends? If you can answer all with yes, most probably FB makes absolutely sense to you, if not ....

I did not delete my account there are many business and friends contacts - special from the US. But if you try to justify the everyday use of this technology by reading the intension of the posts you will discover that people do not post opinions - based on facts - like we did discussing topics in a pub. No, they post plain and stupid positions. Like a child - I know better than you bla bla. 95% is narcissistic-selfish-stuff and adverts... this is really annoying to me !! It is an unfiltered BS information overflow. My biggest fear is that social media is going to make us dull because they guide what you get. Forming an opinion based on social media is a very small window to see the world. Its far away from being independent. I am not against new technology. If it gets stupid and media is eating brains .... in this case I will control my consume of it. I will teach my children that they stop believing everything in the internet. If I read all over FB that a DT forces Russia to release also the rest of the HC e-mails. This has nothing to do with politics, its like children on a playground. That is a symptom of our time, not facts but BS rules the discussion. FB, Twitter, Instagram its perfect for placing such a BS into our brains. The question to me is that FB should answer me where I get a true benefit. They only use third party content. If they would do an education campaign putting millions in it - this would be a true benefit for the society. It would give the name social media a real sense. Giving something back of all the billions. Social media can never make up for in-person relationships. Intimacy in relationships was designed with physical proximity in mind, where we can hear, touch, and see one another.

I started challenging any political posts on Facebook with the "Hide Post" function. Consequently, I don't get much political stuff. I do the same with advertising. I always use the function that says "I don't want to see any more news feeds from..." function. So, I mostly get posts of friends with their families. For this I find it useful. I spend 10 minutes a day. I always wish my friends a Happy Birthday. Even one's I haven't seen since childhood. I want them to know I remember them.

That's more or less the way I view it. I hartdly ever look at my or anyone else's page and rarely post in groups. I mostly just use the PM function for communications and post notices for my gigs, largely because arouind here bookers at clubs expect to see that. Soetimes if I run across something I think is worthwhile I'll "share it on my wall" but I generally don't bother looking at it or what other people post - too much effort, too much time. If I'm gonna waste time on really stupid shit I'll go to the guitar forum on GS. That has all the stupid I need in a day!
