So, I have built two Hairball units so far(Copper and Gold), and I find them to be amazing, like the CAPI units. I will have clips of Copper soon in another thread. The Gold is a beautiful clean sound. It uses Deane Jensen's 990 opamp design and two Jensen transformers. It's clean, but its sweet at the same time. It's also big sounding. Nothing boring here. No mid scoop or real forwardness to my ears. A real peach. So, since I can't play much guitar anymore due to health reasons, I am not exactly great especially on my jazz studies so bear with me. I did a little jazz test through a Muleskinner tweed combo on a T-style from Coop guitars. I don't know the tune well so I read it while I recorded it, and punched on the melody parts as needed. Then I ran some acoustics. It's quite a beautiful thing. I would imagine on a jazz box through an amp, it would capture all the size of it.
