I really want to drop some cable from my second floor to the bigger rooms in my house. Maybe I should just YouTube it but just wondering if there's any trick or tool that people use to wall fish a line down...or is it just put it in there and hope for the best?

What height are you going from in the upper room and what height in the lower wall do you want to get your cable to? What's the approximate length between the two spots? You'll likely need a crazy bit and some fishing rod(s).

Ska-rew that! I'm hiring somebody. That's just as easy as soldering a Capi preamp, John.

I didn't watch the video but I've fished a good amount of wire through walls. Not that hard, you could get it done. Also, if you get stuck and need to cut some holes in the wall, patching it back up is not that big a deal.

Ok watched the video.
That's actually a lot easier than real life wire fishing. In a real circumstance, you're not gonna have it all easily laid out in a mock wall with the run being like 30". You're gonna be going a longer distance (from one floor to another, not just from a hung TV to a lower cabinet or whatever), and you're definitely gonna run into at least the sill plate, possibly other blocking.
I've never once caulked a hole in a piece of blocking inside a wall. I personally wouldn't worry about that.
You just gotta get the damn wire to come out where you want. It's not that hard, really, it just takes a little doing. If you have a decent drill and a Feintool, it's not a big deal.

What a fun video, way overproduced, great tips. I got lucky and I have a drop ceiling here which makes things easier. I say go for it! I own a few Monoprice cables, too, and they're nice.

Any cable in a wall must be rated at least cl-2, at least if you like your insurance policy!

Ok, I'll bite. When wall fishing, what does one use for bait?

My cousin owns a home and car stereo shop and does installes through walls all the time. I'd say find a home stereo shop there in town and just hire them to pull the cable. You can do the rest yourself.

I use plenium cable, designed for fishing. It's very smooth and slippery. Use rubbery cables and they will hang up every time.
I recommend the Belden 89182 Lan Network cable. 8 pf capacitance, 150 ohm impedance, PET teflon dialectrics, 70% propagation delay (70% the speed of light), 22 awg. That stuff sounds way more open than any audio cable.
Paramount Pictures re-wired their entire foley building with it after I brought down a few 100' rolls to audition. That was done in 1995.

I think he uses a high power vacuum to suck a string through first.

Home theater or security installers are normally good at fishing. A good Electrician should be capable as well. If I was close I would help you out.

John Interior or exterior wall? If you can find a stud bay with no outlets, vents or switches on either side of the wall. The fun part is feeding it through the hole you will drill in the sill plate or any braces, find somebody who has one of the long flexible drill bits, they are not cheap, honestly hiring an electrician to run a single cable is going to be less than buying the bit and a fish tape !
