really knowing what your using is super important, i have mackie hr 824's right now, i've had them since 2000, i know these things like the back of my hand, that being said, i've never been overly impressed with them, they sound fine, but now i'm making a new move on monitors, some proAc knocks with some switchable subs are next for me, we'll see how it goes, i have a lot to learn come the new year. Curious to see what cowboy thinks of these also, you guys generally really like them so far, thats a good sign. I was in the exact same boat with the HR-824's. I am giving these a try, still trying to wrap my head around them but so far they don't suck....

Are those the Trident monitors crash? I saw some Trident monitors at AES, but they were in the middle of the convention, so auditioning them was fruitless, but they did look sweet.

I still have the 824's but they are hooked up to my Mac, so they are still in the picture to some extent, though post mix. The Trident's have a really huge stereo image compared to the Mackies and you can pinpoint where things are panned in a mix with more clarity in my opinion. I have been tracking a project and I have not had a chance to mix in anger yet but I am looking forward to getting into that headspace and seeing how things translate. My roughs have been fuller in the bottom end without getting boomy but I am still wrapping my head around these things. Fit and finish is top notch on these not that really matters in the aural results but they are classy looking.
