Adding digital emus of BAE 1073 and several other goodies...Kind of a middle finger to UA... HARDWARE-BASED AUDIO EFFECTS Massive hardware modeling capabilities Already leaders in the field of digital audio clocking Antelope Audio is now on a mission to revolutionize the world of digital audio interfaces. Our custom Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) not only guarantees the lowest sound latency on the market when creating and streaming multiple mixes, but provides our devices with massive hardware modeling capabilities. Forget about expensive DSP effects They often sound flat and soulless and can be quite a pain to your computer. Our FPGA effects bring audio realism to a new level. They sound, behave and feel just like real hardware gear, because they ARE real hardware gear. Orion Studio, Zen Tour and Goliath – all our latest audio interfaces – feature this new breed of powerful hardware-based audio effects. These include vintage and contemporary guitar amp & cab simulations developed in collaboration with Overloud, plus Antelope’s very own enhanced versions of legendary studio gear. antelopeaudio.com/hardware-based-dsp-fx/antelopeaudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/FX-BAE.jpgantelopeaudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/FX-VEQ-55A.jpgantelopeaudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/fx-veq1a.jpgantelopeaudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/fx-amp-top30.jpg

They sound like real hardware because they ARE real hardware? Seriously? Sounds like their definition of "hardware" is a chip with digitally modeled code on it. Unless I'm misunderstanding and they are dropping 1073's, API's, etc into their interfaces..... I fail to see the difference between that and code sitting in your computer as a plug in.

Yeah that ad copy is a little ridiculous.
Also, not so much a middle finger to UAD as a several years later "hey, us too!"

Are chip speeds and available cpu cycles getting to the point where a real-time emulation of a transformer's effect is becoming possible?

heheh. Here's a snippet from an/the Antelope guy on GS in response to the question "how are these not plugins?":
"Conventional Buffered DSP plugin fx require thousands lines of code to operate and either use up lots of a computers resources or require additional off-line processing muscle, yet don’t improve upon latency or sound quality. Such plugins often add several milliseconds of processing delay and typically introduce artifacts to the sound causing various types distortion, as well as smearing the audio’s stereo imaging. Antelope’s FPGA effects maintain audio realism and not only sound great, but behave and feel just like real hardware gear, because Antelope’s FPGA is in fact replicating actual hardware circuits. "
Gave me a good chuckle. OHHH ok, so conventional plugins "require thousands of lines of code" (we all know how much of a problem that is for a computer to handle) while this exciting new FPGA thing "maintains audio realism". Well I'll be damned. That does sound pretty good! I wish my other plugins Maintained Audio RealismTM !

You know when things are getting weird when an audio software manufacturer makes plugin emulations of hardware clones of another manufacturer's design.

Desperate attempt to stay relevant? So, I have to buy another hardware to use software that does exactly the same as all the other software I already own? What's different from the UAD system I've been using for 10 years? Thanks, but no thanks. I'm happy with my 'real' BAE and API hardware and UAD software. This has all the potential to put me off Antelope forever. Leader in the field of audio clocking?? cough cough.

Sounds like they're saying they are doing what roland's aira line does. Instead of writing code for a compressor, they write code for a resistor and what it does, a capacitor and what it does, and op amp and it does and use that to adjust the sound like how an analog component would when put in a virtual "analog circuit". #smoke #mirrors

Ah the world of plugin emulations, somebody make a deal with the original manufacturer, every body else makes a deal with the cloners, we thought the world of hardware politics was fun!

Yeah, but isn't the whole point that it's free?
