Radney Foster's album, "See What You Want To See"...Huge influence on me (whether or not it shows or not, IDK). Anyway, I love the production and sounds on this record. Was made in 1999, but still holds up to me. Here are a couple of songs from it...Just love everything about it.

Darrell Brown co-produced this album...I had known him for a little while and had written with him several times - fantastic writer and all-around fantastic person. I had ZERO idea that he had produced this album for the first few years I knew him...but when I found out, it confirmed my suspicions that he was an all around badass...I haven't talked to him in a while, but maybe I can get him to come in and say a few words about the recording. I was doing a demo session a few years back and when we were listening to the worktape in the control room, I was mentioning to the guys that I wanted kind of a "Radney Foster" kind of feel..."Kind of like what he did on "See What You Want To See"...all of a sudden Chad Cromwell said, "well I can probably do that...I played on the album." Only in Nashville...(can I be so dumb). Chad is my all time favorite drummer and currently touring with Joe Walsh (and Neil Young) Sorry...I've had some margaritas and I'm reminiscing...lol

Love how big and open the electric guitar sounds are. Kind of reminds me of the guitar sounds on Lucinda Williams' "Car Wheels On A Gravel Raod" album. To me, that period (late 90's) and these kind of songs felt more country to me then country back then and country now.

Thanks for the post, JK. I love the snare on Angry Heart. Presenting it to my bandmates as a reference track for what I want the snare to sound like. It's a tall order working with sampled drums (BFD3).

Radney has that special tone that all great singers have. Even his speaking voice is super resonant. He's got a pretty special instrument. This woman Rachel Price is similarly blessed with a voice that has charcter and resonance without needing to be pushed through a grinder.

This album is still super hip for being 17 years old...amazing.
Radney did alright. Made a little dough off this album... Keith Urban covered "Raining On Sunday" Another duo covered "I'm In" Dixie Chicks covered "Godspeed"
