I ultimately never bought...and never tried version 2...I do think it could be useful, though...Just a little too steep a price.

I have Drum Leveler from Sound Radix and like it pretty well. Another option to think about.

I have Drum Leveler from Sound Radix and like it pretty well. Another option to think about. Drumatom in conjunction with Drum Leveler will leave your samples in the dust. Unreal tools. |

Downloaded drum leveler demo and it quickly made my toms work better and bigger.

I agree with Randge Absolutely superb plug that I have used for a while now and I can imagine that it is as you say @jordanvoth Drumatom and Drum Leveler together is match in heaven. I was going to wait when you can have Drumatom Player directly into your DAW without converting it first in the Drumatom snandalone to .DLS files. I want a smooth workflow when I work with the mix. Great pluggs! |

So now I replace the hammer for drum sticks full time again, hoa! |

Great pluggs! Honestly, the workflow is VERY simple if you're working on separate mix and tracking sessions. I record and edit in my tracking session and all those files get bounced to mono wavs and dumped in a mixing session. Before I import I open drumatom, grab my drums, process, they export back into the folder and I proceed like I normally would. It adds about 10 minutes per song to do it and like I said, my hi hat tracks sound like they were overdubbed, I'm going to be trying it on a ride cymbal this week to see if I get the same result. I also want to add that Sound Radix's Autoalign is a game changer for drums as well. Also with Drumatom, cut the toms the way you normally would, I cut mine so that they come in and out on the beat so you never really hear any aggressive chatter or junk. I snip all that stuff up, put auto align on the tracks (I use one of the overheads to send), I print my samples and just before I import them to mix I dump the drums into drumatom. Autoalign digs into the phase really well especially for kits that have more than 4-6 mics on it. What I get at mix down is a kit that's in time, has samples laid out (I use a cubase macro and hand align everything after), in phase and has very little leakage. You can almost put drum leveller over it and make some small eq moves and call it a day. If you're doing drums I would say these tools are more valuable than any piece of hardware that I've come across. |

Maybe I'll give drumaton another chance. I have Sound Radix's Autoalign and worked for a while with it. But I use the Drum Leveler more at rock & pop stuff. But Sound Radix's Autoalign I use less and less. I'm that guy who does not drag files manualy align. Tested it and I felt all the energy died out. I might be doing wrong, but I trust my ears. I think there are to many transients fight for the same spot when you align! I have many channels when recording drums (about 16 channels) more to be able to select in the mix. So it is done for phase problems! But I have put a lot of time to move the microphones bit by bit until it is as accurate as it can be in phase. Since then I have not touched them;) I think you lose that nice 3d sound when you align all the tracks. When you mix so you just have to find the balance between all the tracks in the volume, then you have a living, energy 3d sound of the drum kit. Will it be too much flame vibe from the room mic I usually take away even more of the attack from room mic with a transient designer in da mix, but keep the distance. When I tested the Drumatom, I thought it might be too much of the artificial sound. But it is probably only when you run it too hard. Will probably give it another chance again, for it seems to so smoothly and quickly when you work! Talking about HH mic. The last time I addressed hihat mic angled toward SD. You can get very much body from the snare of the HH microphone, test it out! It is fun to hear all the approaches we have for the perfect sound. It's one of the funniest things about recording drums (any instrument), that there are no right or wrong. Absolutely the most fun when you do something completely crazy and unconventional that fits just right in music context! Sorry if I came off the subject |

Although I loved the idea of what drumatom does, I never bought because of the standalone software and workflow nightmare. But now there's this: Wilkinson Debleeder plugin I bought it a couple nights ago and it effortlessly does what it says. I think its really a game changer for anyone mixing modern rock live drums.
