Hey mulmany, I know i said i was going to do a thread, well, i'll post where i'm at so far here with no objections. I can tell you that so far so good, i'm not all the way done, but close, i've been building an insane amount of diy pieces, i need a few parts for the 1176's, so i put them on the back burner for now, here's some pics

this is the state that most of them are in right now, maybe a little further along, other than the collective cases front panels(awesome), i made all my own cases and backs from aluminum and rack trays(i've got dozens laying around), i recommend just getting collective cases, way easier, and much less time spent. I expect i will be wrapping these up by february, i'm going out of town for a month over xmass, i cant imagine i'll get them done with all the work i'm doing on other things right now, i'll post up here with any mods and progress as i move along. hope this helps Maybe danderloo will chime in? he's the man when it comes to these.

I will add, that i substituted all the electrolytic caps with elna silmic ll electrolytics, i'm completely sold on these, everything i've put them in has been effected positively, i subbed out some in a channel strip on my JW modded console, and it won in a blind comparison by both of us partaking, they seem to add a smoothness to things, so...?

I built some of the original DIY 1176 before there were even kits or boards on the market. Kids these days have it too easy.

Are you really building 8 channels of 1176 and a stereo La-3a?

Are you really building 8 channels of 1176 and a stereo La-3a? and 2 f760 compex clones, along with 5 aphex 651's, 4-dbx 166 channels all wtih JW mods. I know i'm crazy, but i'm a track with nothing guy, i like a blank canvas free of eq, compression, when i start mixing, i have 32 input channels 8 stereo sub channels on my console, so..? 20 channels of compression leaves me short lol edit; I should also mention, i'm all about drums, probably has a lot to do with my disfunction lol

Thanks Tony! They look great. Reading through Dan's thread over on groupdiy, seems like people have a lot of issues with the stereo linking and its hard to determine what the problems are.
Anyone have successful builds of the stereo units?
Thanks

tonycamphd Hi Tony! I'm not too fond of building units with anything more than 24V in it. Did the 51X PSU and thought I'd stop there, but a stereo 1176 rev D would be so nice, so I'll probably give it a try sooner or later. Would it be easy for you to help me do a shopping list? - Hairball has complete kits for mono units now but not for stereo, so I guess all generic components like resistors, caps etc would be ordered via the Mouser carts that Hairball provides? - Hairball has a kit for stero builds but without switches, pots, XLR, IEC and no main boards. So is it easy for you to do a shopping list for the latter? (except the stuff below) I believe Hairball provides all except the XLR and IEC stuff? - Faceplate/case from Dan I guess - Stereo power supply PCB from MNATS More?

Call me crazy, but i substitute all the electrolytics for the elna silmic ll's, they have made a diff in everything i've put them in...no matter what Ethan wineberg says lol 8)

shamefully no... 8( The month long trip to the east coast turned into 3+ months, I've been at this so long, i shifted gears, and decided to focus on my room and the acoustics, so i can get back to making music, the good news is i only need to wire them up...so they should get done fairly quickly when i pull them out again?

Cool. Just promise to share your experiences with the stereo link stuff when you are ready! I want to follow your lead. Perhaps in a few months or whatever.

I might build a 6th and maybe final 1176. Then again, I might change my dual mono unit from REV G to REV A. Not sure yet. I also have a version of 2254 that has been in the works for a while, and I might finish that instead.
