I saw the post of the video of someone using a 47 on voice and 87 on guitar with the chandler gear and it got me thinking.. So I threw up my 87, plugged it into the 1073DMP from BAE and quickly cut the song. Took from start of idea to finish of tracking about 5 mins longer than the song, 1 take. Then I sent the track out to the Soundcraft Delta for a little EQ, patched in the Warm Pultec and did the tiniest of EQ with it.. then put it out through the STAM SA2A, which is doing up to .. wait for it.. 10dB of Compression!!! on the big notes. (so its a hair over compressed in a couple of sections...) Johnkenn this is the Taylor Mahogany Mini I was talking about. Then it has the Bricasti M7 over the track on the Wide Room Preset (which is what was just sitting there from yesterdays session) A couple of things... I should do more of this, just playing and singing with an acoustic guitar instead of trying to play instruments I can't play very well (bass and drums) Mono recording , using the Bricasti is a real option... where before it sort of wasn't. I would really love to try the chandler stuff doing the same thing.. hint.. any chance of a down under demo? 8) The U87 is just a great great microphone. I don't hear any spitting or popping Here is the link to the full resolution file if you want to hear it, rather than the soundcloud link Full Resolution Download
https%3A//soundcloud.com/user550433336/house-of-the-rising-sun-2-june-2016let me know what you think, keeping in mind the context of how the recording is done.. 8) cheers Wiz PS .. bonus points if you can tell me .. in the photo next to the soundcloud link... where is the floor from? 8)

That might be my fav that you've posted, Wiz...I was thinking the same thing watching that vid...I need to do more of that. But it's a level of control that I'm so scared of giving up, you know! But what's funny is that you just never get the same feel as when you're playing and singing at the same time. Saying that, though, most of the music I'm doing isn't as emotional (as I would like it or it should be)...it's mostly done to be consumed while a woman is putting on her makeup in the car on the way to work...mindless pop. Sigh...Anyway, great job. I've wanted a U87 for a long time - never owned one...

Thanks John I am about to put up a video of the VU meter of the SA2A so people can see a needle move.. how exciting will that be? 8) My wife (Jo) has been at me for YEARS to stop trying to do the whole one man band thing and just play and sing... feh! what does SHE know 8) It is funny though, imagine how much gear we WOULDNT need! 8) thanks for checking it out and commenting cheers Wiz

Very nice. Personally I'm in love with the one mic setup for guitar and vocals. When you get it right - it sounds awesome. You got it right.
Not to dredge up an old battle - but I assume a u87i (non Ai)?
I've got a u87Ai that I've never been able to get to work for me for acoustic. I don't want to start any arguments over that. I know what people say. I know what I hear with mine. I hate mine on acoustic guitars. I'm moving mine on out - as I just don't use it. Plus you know - I need to free up funds for other gear (like a RS124!).

I have never used a Ai, would like to try one though thanks for checking it out cheers Wiz

Mind you, my Ai received some tlc from Andreas Grosser, but they both sound remarkably close. The old version is a bout 3-5db quieter than the newer one, but sonically, they're close. I used the Ai on acoustics and it sounded great. It was on a less gentle track though.
