that is a near flawless production... its only personal preference.. but the sibilance on the voice is the only thing I don't really care for.. beautiful LCR mix cheers Wiz Heard the same thing...but you know, we're all just being nerds I guess. It's a fantastic sound.

Jim Jacobson, of JJ Audio does a nice gap pre73 upgrade. I don't think he lists it on his site, but I have seen and heard them in his shop. You might want to ask him about them.

The Great River always delivers... It's very flexible and you can get several different degrees of neve-ish flavor via the load, impedance and input/output knobs. I highly recommend it. In my studio, it sits beside BAE, Wunder, AML Neve Variants and never dissapoints. I have two of the 500 series versions.

Well, summer's here, and all my students leave town. So, I'll be living on fumes until mid-September, and unless something unexpected comes up that brings in some cash, gear acquisition will will have to put on hold. I will spend the time researching a few options. After using it last weekend, I know the Great River's a sure thing. I like the idea Randy had about the RTZ 500 series. I don't have a lunchbox yet, but the idea of a lunchbox is beginning to appeal to me.
I've always prefered full size rack mount gear, but in this case, a lunchbox would handle a Neve-ish pre, and eventually a matching EQ, and then maybe another piece or two down the road. I can probably get a fair amount for my D4 when I'm ready to switch over. The D4 really does get that REDD 47-ish sound.
* I'm glad I managed to get a little Bad Cat Bobcat last weekend before the well goes dry. It should be sweet for tracking at home, when I finally get back to it.
