In using the colour palettes, dr bill's buddy Brad released an 1176 palette, so you essentially get an 1176 style compressor for 100 bucks. The thing is, you can't change any settings easily, it's using pcb based pots. Other than the amount of level going in, it's pretty well set in place.
do any of you hybrid people do that for most pieces of gear? would that reduce the headache of recall in comparison? I know there's there bettermaker which literally using plugins for their hardware settings. is that what most of you do for your 2bus? set and forget?

Here's some funny 1176 economic math for you.
Guitar players will pay $400 to $500 for a "Cali 76" compressor FX pedal, copied from the 1176.
While a Hairball Audio DIY kit for a real-deal 1176 will cost you the same money, if you build it yourself.
I just think boutique guitar pedals command quite a premium price for what they actually are. The economics of them sits a little funny for me. Which is why I build my own, or own Boss, MXR, etc.
