Hi guys, i recently noticed that the M-Audio Lightbridge is already out of production for some tme, looked out for a follower or a similar solution in case it fails and found essentially ... nothing. I mean, a simple interface with 4 ADAT In / 4 ADAT Out (or more), optimal would be an additional SPDIF In/Out. Preferably external, Firewire and affordable. No need for analog i/o - i mean - i want to use my converters...no fancy... Or - is ADAT really dying in favor of expensive MADI with external Madi/ADAT/AES converters or proprietary solutions of busses that need PCIe or even several PCIe cards tp do the task? In essential, i do not even need more than one ADAT in, maybe two, if even any! Looking for the ADAT outs to feed a console. Lightbridge gives me 32 Channels (single speed) which i consider minimum for such a task as analog downmix. Any suggestions i overlooked? What do you use for such a task? Best regards, Martin

I have the Presonus Firestudio Lightpipe, I really want to replace it with a new PC and RME card altogether.

Well, yes, the Presonus solution was in my book, too, the last time i was researching. In the meantime, it is discontinued, too!
I am pretty happy with the lightbridge, but well, nothing lasts forever, and i am pretty screwed in case of a (major) failure without backup...(ok, the Firewire Phy chip might be replacable, not so the main processor....)
Had Sonorus and RME cards before. They are good. Looked into the Raydat. You need 1 PCIe slot but 3(!) slot spaces for the card, expansion board an wordclock board. Already a problem in many modern mainboards. Plus - it is expensive. 700 Euros, that's twice the price i paid for the lightbridge for same amount of interfaces. Hefty, while i do not see any real additional benefit for me personally. Really, while i had RME HDSP, it is really stable and the digital fancy, and routing/metering etc. all is a nice-to-have, i really did not use it and with the less options of the lightbridge, this stuff always was set and forget. Easy handling and worked flawlessly too from the first day... Last point - i do not really like going via lightpipe directly from the workstation anymore, plus, i cannot take my soundcard with me in a minute over to another machine or a friend........might sound not so important, but i really like to have my soundcard right at my fingertips on the desk, seeing status of ins and outs in hardware, having a headphone out,...such things.... Once i had it i would miss it... Hrmpf....
OK, i'm looking further.... Feel free to add options i may not have seen.....

you could buy a used MOTU interface that has lightpipe on it for $3-400 USD. just ignore the analog ins, you'd get 8 channels of ADAT.
