Just acoustic guitar and a vocal. I feel that's the best place to start. If I was nearby, I'd bring Dizengoff D4 over for a shootout. It would be fun the see how the little guy stands up to the big guys. I can almost feel the Chandler quality through the tv screen.

Ugh...the WHAM stuff might be a scoche ghey...Might have to opt for the much less feminine solo canon from GM.

The drummer from my teenage Glam/Metal band Pandora was on that record, Frank LaRocca. Arf Arf records released our demo as a CD posthumously a few years back. Strangely, Pandora has a small cult following online. It was kind of like Steve Marriot singing outtakes from Man Who Sold the World. Frank was incredible, even then at 18 years old.
I was 18 yrs old here.

You guys just mentoned three of the greatest voices from the 90s. George Michael's personal life aside, that freaking guy has an amazing voice, better than Sam Smith in my opinion. And Rick Astley and Michael McDonald had me convinced they were black until I actually saw them. I wish we had more singers like that today. There are too many people trying to make you listen to them sing when their talent doesn't justify the attention they seek.

FWIW, that pair was used on the The Avett Brothers live record (Acc.Gtrs), Rival Sons upcoming new album Hollow Bones (June 10th) on Drums, Bass, Elec. Gtr... Think Vocals too on some tracks, and Amos Lee's forthcoming album; they come from Wade's personal rack.
I'll get more clarity on some of this...

Wow...Martin Slightly off topic, but just mentioning Frankie is a blast from the past. Many, many great memories. I worked with Peter Baron, Cherry Vanilla, The New York Dolls, David Jo (after the Dolls), Johnny Thunders, and hung with Frankie, many, many nights. Small world.

Dang, small world indeed. Buzzy Verno was the bass player in Pandora. I know Peter Baron, Tom Trask, Kasim Sultan. It seems S.I. bred good players then, I had a band called The Very Few with Paul Duskin, do you know Paul? We played together for years, and he was on my last album, "Watching the Days Fall".
Buz and Frankie left Pandora for Johansen's band. We had three record deal offers at that time. I tried to convince them to stay with the band, where they'd be a partner instead of hired hands, but then David was a sure thing then, so I don't blame them.
Sorry to go so off topic. I'm really curious to hear John's impressions of the Chandler.

Are you using a different mic than when I saw you in the fall and we played with the REDD and RS? The clips you did before, while I was there (posted below) sound different and more indicative, the new ones you posted sound bright to me...

It does make me wonder whether the light strings make that much difference in the bottom. That one is the same mic...

The two vocal files you posted both had the 124 in the chain...which is going to thicken the sound a little too. While I really like the bottom of that first mic, it was just a bit rolled off for modern productions in my opinion. I'm POSITIVE there will be many others.
Here's one with a HW tube comp in the chain.

I might grab some mediums for the acoustic to see if that is making the difference...weird. Seems to be a lot more body in the Fall acoustic passes.
