Yeah that's just called piezoelectricity. The stress on the crystal causes charge to accumulate or move which can be amplified. Same as any contact mic used on acoustic guitar, or for drum triggers, etc. We've all seen these little doodads: www.megalithia.com/sounds/tech/piezo/piezo_p1010216.jpgAnd tony, I made another pair of the self-molded plugs.. Same as before. the material crumbles and cracks and they fall out of my ears with even the slightest movement of my head. Maybe I have strange ear canals or something.

Maybe I have strange ear canals or something. crumbles and cracks?? i had to literally cut mine with a razor to get the excess from around the sound tube. weird. This is exactly how i did mine, mixed 1/2 the material, bit down on a pencil like a dog bone, push material into my ear, push earbud into my ear, shape around the outside till satisfied, wait, crackle and pop for 15 minutes, pull them out, then shave around the sound tube and pull out the stuff that went up the tube, repeat. mine work really well, and are indestructible? i wonder if you got bad formulation? bummer
