There was a big fire in my block today. In the national news and all. The firefighters managed to block it before it reached our house, perhaps 40 meters away from me. Reeaally scary. In the fuss I totally forgot that I have a smoke detector. It has never gone off before, even with a bunch of candle lights close to it, but today when some minor smoke reached my apartment it did. Seeing the fierce force of that fire it just struck me what a cheap and effective insurance it is.

Good points, guys. My smoke detectors have stopped working months ago, time to get some new ones. Thanks for the reminder.
