Depends on the price, but yeah there is something present in the St Ives which apparently is hard to reproduce. That said i use Carnhill in nearly all my neve clones as well as other pieces of hardware and find them to be great. I'm currently hoping to come across a pair of line input xfmrs myself.

OK My opinion is based on the fact that sitting here are 8 channels of Dan Alexander's with his new boards and old transformers. There is something very, very special about that old Neve iron, they don't make transformers like that anymore. The new ones are great but they don't quite sound like the old ones. If I didn't have the Dan Alexander's I would be happy with most of the modern Neve Clones, I have been tempted by the prospect of modern 1081's but I know I would lose the tone of that old iron and copper and the only way to get that in a bunch of 1081's is go broke on vintage. If you go with the vintage transformers your going to find you want more. these things define the word big sounding, they have a cool way of rounding transients yet makeing you think they are expanding those transients.

Hm, the price depends on the question: Are they in acceptable shape, servicable conditon, ready for production or not? Rusty transformers or parts? Hard to say without seeing them... Same like for everything vintage...
